Could it happen? "National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing". Could, would Ferrari compete? Why have't we seen it?

    IT NEVER WILL HAPPEN~!.

NASCAR is more american based for american companys to compete against each other atleast domestic one's. Just recently did they let toyota compete in NASCAR, I think it would be a cold day in hell before you see a Ferrari or a Lamborghini running the oval with the Chevys, Fords and Mopars as well as the Toyotas.

Altough it would be kind of cool cause id start watching nascar again.

I don't think ferrari has plans to assemble cars in america for one thing. Not to mention a ferrari push rod engine just sounds wrong.

They don't build a pushrod v8, so they don't have a legal motor.

On the body/chassis, that's a spec thing with a brand-specific nose, so in theory they could create a "F149" Cup car.

More importantly, they would get their butts kicked for the first few years, and Ferrari wouldn't take that risk.

Most importantly, there's no marketing benefit to them.

    That's it in a nutshell.

A few years back when Toyota jumped into Nascar I read about someone asking Honda when they would do it. They said "What could we learn from it?" What could Ferrari learn from building a racecar that is lower tech than the stuff they made for the street 40 years ago? Nada.

For the record, Ferrari of Las Gatos sponsored a car for a few races back in the early 90s -- and yes, the numbers were screwed up

I guess you guys have never experienced the Penske 68 Camaro on track? The note of the fine tuned ground pounder V8 will rock your mind like an orgasm. You really have no idea.

The 68 Camaro almost looks like the historic Trans Am Penske car, but there are several things a miss to be that car. The color combo is most certainly a copy of the Penske colors worn on the original though.

There is no benefit for them...what would they be selling? Ford, GM, and Toyota are all trying to market their cars by winning Nascar racing. Do you see many Ferrari customers in the Nascar demographic? Not unless Ferrari started making cutoff tee-shirts or cheap beer...

Nor does Ford. All their V8s have been SOHC/DOHC for years.

Count me as one of the irritated fans that became a fan long before being a fan was fashionable. That is one of many irritating changes that Brian has made.
    Michael W210:
You are correct on that point...the 302 and 351 have long since been retired...Toyota had never ever offered a pushrod V-8 in any of their stateside offerings and yet they found their way in...another one of Brian's changes that true fans are annoyed with.

Are you crazy? Don't make me go Matteo on you.

Hey Tillman- Ferrari doesn't have a V10 production car either. NASCAR is as "stock" as F1 is. Will NASCAR ever allow overhead cam engines?

That is not accurate. Both Ford and Chevrolet still run push rod motors in Nascar currently. Ford still runs the Windsor 351 block although the deck heighth has been raised to accomodate the Yates heads, which are a canted valve version of the Cleveland heads (raised ports and relocated spark plugs). Similar to the 1970 Trans Am Boss 302 setup, only they ran the 302 windsor with stock Cleveland heads.
