    Hey all,

I'm tearing down a bbq'd 308 motor . . it's a carb engine and it has two dizzy's but they're nothing like the later injected style .. looks like the assemblies are held in the end of the cam with a pin but the cams are quite a bit shorter than the later cams . . the retaining pin is actually in the bearing area as opposed to being a couple inches further out on later styles.

Because she was in a fire all the pieces aren't in the distributors . . what's left are seized together pretty tight . .. and I'm not sure how they come apart . . . couple snap rings visible but not making sense yet . .. figured part of it slides off the end of the cam without removing the cross pin . . can someone post some pics of what comes apart? looks like they had electronic modules put in at some time also 'cause there's no points.

If this thing is ever gonna run again I'll be making new cam caps among other things . ..I'd post some pics but with Mark and Bert's projects going on what's the point :).

    Cheers all,

    Sean

interesting thanks . . . I drove the cross pin out of the cam and just knocked the whole assembly off the end . . so that's lurking down inside the seized assembly I guess.

I don't think I'll be playing with dizzy's any time soon . . . those things are probably fetch more than a whole EFI conversion.

    thanks again,

    Sean

wait a minute . . looking at your pic if that bolt screws into the cam it's nothing like what I have . . . is it screwing into the cam or screwing into an adapter that's pinned to the shaft?

Yes, that bolt screws right into the end of the cam. It has an O ring on the body of it that seals the end off. Very different style than the spline shaft that is used in later 308's...

I didn't see any spline on my 308 2Vi's so there's an itteration in between?

OOPS! I meant pin shaft.....typing too fast again!

AFAIK, there are 2 versions. I just read a thread that had pics of both. I'll copy the pic if I can find it again...

    Sean,

I replaced mine with a BSM unit (see www.superformance.co.uk), and have the two originals still around. If you'd twist my arm real hard, I might sell them....
