Well economy might be down, prices down but plenty sold.
Is that price in AUD? If so that is a VERY low price for a Vantage Volante. Those have sold in the UK for close to 2MM UDS! As an aside He was killed right in front of me on the Hill in 2000 in his 4 wheel drive Lotus F1 Car which I now see was also sold here: http://www.bonhamsandgoodman.com.au/lot_details.php?lot=71386&view=results&year=2008&offset=0
No it wasn't. It was a restoration project. The paint was appalling, a quick "hose over" for the auction. Non original interior dirty and tired. Same for the mechanicals.
Clearly the low Aussie dollar helped. When GD and I went over to look at the cars, there was a German guy pouring all over the Lotus 79, which he could import to the EU with only 5% VAT. I'm happy (and relieved) that historic race car prices are holding up. Mario Andretti's role in a car's histroy is clearly an asset, which I'm also happy about. Deal of the night was the ex Colin Bond TE Cortina, completely original, $24K guide and it didn't sell. Would cost $100K to build a replica and it was driven by Australia's best ever rally champion, not to mention D-D, who was also a national champion as navigator.
I thought the Lotus #39 was a fair price . good to see that the cars were sold at fair prices. Bentley 3.0 l sold also.
That was good buying. Easily a 100K pounds car in the UK. It looked very original, with lots of patina - apart from the modern temp guage on the dash!
year many people are hopping it stays as it is.ie single axle brake and Aussie body. 1st 3.o litre to come here.
Any ideas on where the Lotus 25 R4 ended up? Going out of Aus I assume. Fantastic machine - possibly my favourite all time F1 car. Hopefully it will get used by the new owner.
Haven't seen it in the flesh. Was meaning the series #1 DB6 Vantage Volante iin general are a beautiful car than specifically that example. Stylish way to go to the races or anywhere else.
Yes AUD. http://www.bonhamsandgoodman.com.au/lot_details.php?lot=71334&view=results&year=2008&offset=0 This auction is the funniest I think for tightass extreme. I mean seriously he was expecting $20MAX!? Was it even worth the effort for $4??!?! haha.. I wonder what mark the heritage plates got to before turned in. This from that site actually explains which cars stayed in oz.
Hopefully they'll fit the correct gearbox too - not an aluminium casing stamped VW Audi and made in Brazil...
