I was trolling around Ebay today when I found this auction for a F430. The door of this car has been personally signed in Sharpie by Michael Schumacher. Now I'm a huge Schumacher fan, but can't see how someone would want this done to their car. Am I alone in this thinking? The dealer is really playing up this signature and how it makes the car a one-of-a-kind. I just found it very NASCARish. A hat? Absolutely! A beautiful Ferrari? How about a handshake Michael!

Well, maybe for a museum display... but for a daily driver? Naw... I don't think so....

How would you wash the car and not remove the sig?

Sure....although you better believe that door is getting an extra layer of clearcoat at the nearest bodyshop. Schumacher contributed to the development of the car, so its like having the artist sign their painting. It certainly doesn't hurt the value of the car.

Stick a chunk of clearbra stuff over that part of the door right after the signing?

    Personally it wouldn't interest me.

I think i'd be cooler to have him sign something removable so that it could be replaced and not ruined when you drive the car. Maybe the center plaque in the middle of the dash on the F430...something like that

EDIT: I see he signed the plaque too anyway. Lol

They did it right and cleared over the signature to seal it. I just think that everytime I walked up to the car I would crap my shorts thinking someone keyed it!

Swap the door with another, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find one from a wrecked F430 then hang the signed door on a wall.

I would have to factor in the cost of a new door so that this one could go on the wall...

Doesn't seem like a very good location...... When I saw Art Z's F50 GT1 at Laguna Seca a few years back it was signed on the dash (carbon fiber) with a silver Sharpie. It was a neat touch and the seemed much more appropriate up on top of the dash than on the door or some other location.

Yeah, wouldnt interest me either! :):)

Had a mate last night tell me Craig Lowndes signed the dash of this new Ford "Craig Lowndes" XR8 ute. :):)
(Lowndes is a really good/popular V8 Supercar driver here in Australia)

Now, everyone who see's his ute, LOVES the signature on the dash cause it goes with the car. My mate LOVES the idea and wouldnt stop talking about it last night. All I wanted to do was get some Chinese for dinner and I had this tosser telling me ALL about this car and signature. :p:p

I agree, replace the door with another door and hang the door in your garage. If not then get the door clearcoated with the signature. It definitely is a neat touch. How many other F430's are signed by Schumi?

There are much better ways of doing this, like under the trunk lid/ bonnet lid, depending on the placement of the engine of course. On the drivers door? Much to Gawdy for me. Perhaps a small one on the roof above the drivers door if it was a track car but even that wouldn't be approved by me. This seems tasteless in terms of collector appeal and as for daily driver appeal, it's tacky.

Or maybe either on one of the side-view mirrors or on a visor?

If you look at the picture it looks like they scuffed the paint where he is signing it so the new clearcoat will stick.
I do like the dash idea much better, The outside does seem NASCARish.

+1, I've seen a few Shelby signed visors. Easily removable, that's where a sig goes.

The dealer here in Singapore has a 612 with the centre console signed by Michael. The first time I saw it I thought a kid had taken to it with a marker, until I recognised the signature. I'm a huge fan but it's not for me .. but I can see that some people would like it.

I wouldn't want the door signed. I guess the dash would be ok.

How about if you got a big Ferrari shield on the front left fender, and then had him sign across that?

Seriously, this is not for me...it is the same thing as vanity plates. I saw somewhere a vintage Ferrari racer
for which it was proudly noted that the mechanics had scratched the driver's name on the gearbox because it
had special ratios that he had requested. That, I can understand - the Schui endorsement, no way.

This is not baseball memorabila, IMHO.

    Tacky!

OTOH, I've seen many Shelbys with their gloveboxes signed by Caroll (typically in silver sharpie) and that does look very cool.
