This might be too good to be true but saw an ad on cars.com ... look under Used/ Ferrari/ Any distance/ price under $20000. 88 testarossa/ looks perfect - $18,700!!!

I'm from 308 forum, but thought someone might benefit here. Not related to the seller, just simply sending info fellow F-chatters.

I saw that also. Has to be a mistake or some sort of scam.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Please be careful.....TR's are not for the faint of wallet.

Times are bad and you may have stumbled on a genuine hard luck case..but you will need to check it out in person.

I've been in the market for a 308 or 328 and happened upon this ad. There's not question it's BS. I emailed back and forth with the "seller" a few times. Here are two of those email responses:

    Response #1...

"I have a phone number, but I cannot speak :). I had a maxillary fracture two weeks ago after a fall in rock climbing and I still have to wear a protection for a week or two. My doctor will know better at the end of this week. The car is in good overall mechanical condition. It had many owners along the time, 4 or 5 if I remember right. I have all the maintenance history with receipts for most of the work done on the car.
I can arrange for shipping and I will provide also a 5 days inspection period once the car reaches you.
Let me know if you're ready to move forward."

Response #2 when asked (for the second time) why the price was so low...

"I'm in rush selling it as I'm moving to London soon. I've got a new job there and as soon as I’m sorting things here I'm free to go. The car is one of the things that still keep me here, so I had drastically reduced the price to sell it fast. There are no other reasons, the car is in good overall order and I have clear title in hand.
Let me know where are you from so I can ask for shipping quotes."

So, she can't speak and is moving to London in a hurray. Hmmmm, don't think this one is legit.

I love goofing with scammers. I'm asking him/her to pay for a car fax and send it to me.
    I got this so far:

    Dear Steve,

First of all thank you for your interest in my Testarossa. My last price is $18,700. I want to inform you that my current location is Everett, Washington.
If the distance is not an issue we can move forward.
Let me know what info you need.

That's hilarious Steve...I just received the exact same email word for word on a late '80s M3....guess this scammer is really branching out!

    quote from my inbox...

    Hi John,

First of all thank you for your interest. The car is still available at the best price of $11,000. It's in good overall condition, nothing needs urgent attention. I want to inform you that my current location is Everett, Washington.
If the distance is not an issue we can move forward.
Let me know what info you need.

    All the best,
    Karl

Even funnier (or more pathetic) is the virtually identical 'hardship' story with an unreal (literally) price posted in the 3x8 section here...

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=258259

And another head injury incident remarkably happened on a $12k Jaguar E type on ebay 2 weeks prior. Either a huge coincidence or those mountain climbing injuries are really contagious.

Maybe they were all roped together when the Testarossa guy slipped?
