Why the need for all the bodywork to be replaced? Wonderfully done and all though.

So the original body was steel. Interesting. I hope he kept and keeps all the original stuff .

Somehow I seriously doubt that.

 

Not steel - Marzotto/Fontana were sort of pioneers in weight saving, so they most certainly worked with alloy. Usually when an aluminum body is restored, some parts must be changed because aluminum gets brittle so it won't hold together. When the body gets cleaned and repaired some of the original panels may look so bright that people erranously think that more has been replaced than actually true. Best wishes, Kare

I recently came across something was was new even to me. While restoring a Vintage Blower Bentley the owner had taken old stripped bolts, melted them down and reused the original metal to remake bolts.

Great subject for philosophers to think how original those bolts are.

I sometimes reuse scrap when making something for my car. I crack jokes about how reused Ferrari parts don't need a prayer when put into service and how those parts or materials coming from a Lancia only need a short one. Seriously it makes me feel better when I can use Italian materials, even if the bottomline is it's all nonsense.

Thanks much for the resto pix.. Are you going to keep the original seats as is. I hope so. Some resto work should be just fine.I hope you will also keep the original body pannels with the car. It's nice to see a resto job that doesn't really go beyond what the car looked like at this period of its life.Going back to August of 2007 we exchanged correspondence about the possibility of 0086 chassis possibly being 008I and or a Formular car. I wonder if there is anything further about what might have been under the 0086 chassis stamp? If you have more pictures of the chassis before the modifications to accept the new body I would like to see them. I am particularly interested in the center X bracing. Also is there evidence of original bracing outboard of the main chassis rails to support a two seater body? From what I can tell from your early pix the chassis looks like a simple narrow twin tube rear underslung GILCO frame, possible a single seater.Finally what work did you do on the engine and drive train? Please post what you can on F.Chat or at [email protected]. Will look forward to seeing the finished product just one man's opinion tongascrew

So 0086E is now back to its 1952 Mille Miglia configuration.

 

I believe the body found on it was something like the second or third replacement and poorly done, hence the replacement.

 

I am pretty sure the old body of 0086E dates back to 1952.

 

Engine fire today on the downhill at Raticosa. Quickly extinguished, fortunately.

Wow, glad nothing more happened to it, that could have been horrible.

I've got a question too, it took them 1 and 1/2 years to remake the body, but how long did it take to make them when new?
