Now's the time to make reservations if you are even remotely considering Canada!!

A draft calendar for next season published by Germany's sport1 shows that Bahrain will once again host the season opener while the inaugural Indian Grand Prix has been pencilled in for October 9.

Other notable changes see the European GP in Valencia switch from the end of June to the last Sunday in August and the Turkish and Monaco races swapping around. Teams will visit Montreal on the weekend of June 12 before heading to Istanbul two weeks later for the last leg of the European season.

    Possible 2011 calendar
    March 13, Bahrain
    March 27, Australia
    April 3, Malaysia
    April 17, China
    April 24, Korea
    May 15, Spain
    May 29, Monaco
    June 12, Canada
    June 26, Turkey
    July 10, Britain
    July 24, Germany
    July 31, Hungary
    August 21, Belgium
    August 28, Europe (Valencia)
    September 11, Italy
    September 25, Singapore
    October 9, India
    October 23 Japan
    October 30, Brazil
    November 13, Abu Dhabi

Indian GP is on my birthday.

Does anyone know where it'll be located? if it's close to the beach on the west side of India maybe I should go...

It stinks Monza and Spa are not on back to back weekends, it was one of my favorite weeks of the year with both races in 7 days.

I don't understand splitting Korea and Japan. I also would think it would make sense to look at moving Brazil to follow the US GP in 2011, assuming the race comes off on time and is held in June. This means the teams could go from Montreal, to Texas, and on to Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo averages less than half as much rain in June than Oct/Nov. The average temperatures are in the lower 70s in June as opposed to the upper 70s in Oct/Nov. The only large June celebration in Sao Paulo, as far as I could find, is their Italian Festival, which would fit right in for Ferrari fans.

real challenge would be the back to back Japan Brazil races. It's a 30 hour flight between the two! usually around December 1st or late November the "official" calendar is posted

David, sorry to miss you but it sounds like you certainly had a fantastic opportunity that one couldn't pass on.

I figured that Canada would be on June 12, which is around its usual date, but I had been hoping that it would be a week later or so. Why? Well, the oldest son of my best friend (who I introduced to F1 in Montreal in 1986) is graduating high school, and we wanted to make a trip to the Grand Prix a graduation present. Unfortunately, it appears that he will be graduating ON the weekend of June 12, so if we do this we will have to delay the race trip by a year. Maybe then we can take him to Austin instead.....

I'm having a similar issue with my nephew and the targeted Monza GP so I'm working on alternate plans. Canada or Spa possible.

2012 maybe India? somehow I never want to go to a premier event where the organizers are still working out the kinks

Hope you know what you are getting into if you go to the India GP. I was very disappointed that the race would be in this part of the country, and was hoping for the south. There are numerous tourist attractions in the greater New Delhi area such as the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, etc., but almost everything in between is dismal. If you do go, there is a vendor available through Expedia.com that offers a car and driver rental around a seven day loop for very little money (you do have to arrange a flight back to New Delhi from the last stop, but mine only cost $124). The station wagon is new (at least the one I was in was), the driver was pleasant and well spoken, and on call 24 hour/day. You make your own hotel reservations and he picks you up and leaves you off. One of the best deals I ever made. And if you like excitment, riding on Indian highways will give you all you can handle. Oh yeah, catch a Bollywood movie one night.

All very good advice, thank you.

I have heard that transportation in between can be hairy and that in general you have to pick the best places to go to. And yes, *IF* I go to India for the GP it would also include visiting the best sites of the country. We shall see, but your advice is certainly spot on.
