    HI all

I have been away for a long time, but not forgotten my dream about a Ferrari.

Well, I have made up my mind a bit more, it is the 348 or the 355 model I like to go for, GTB model, manual gear.

But, are there some pro, cons for the models? Service cost?
I do believe the two have to have the engine out for a cambelt, so that is the same, but what about gear and engine, how reelable are they ?

The car will be use in city, day to day drive, but also as a GT, long trips in europe, with some luggage and my wife.

Any owners who can help me out here, will the 355 be more comfortable?

I have tested the two, now many times. And I live them, the 355 is a bit more modern, but the 348 looks so cool.
The 355 is more modern in driving style, but I like the 348 to.

Hope some can help me, all info is good.

    Thanks all

Big difference in power, sound, looks, and handling. The 355 bits the 348 in all categories, I should know I owned a 348 before my 355 Spider and there is no comparison. Maintenance similar on both maybe a tick more for the 355.

Well sir the look department is a personal opinion, most of my colleagues think the 355 looks to refined, kind of like a girls car.........:D:D:D:D ZZZZZZZZZZZZING

Both cars are fantastic, both cars are different. Operating cost on a 348 are lower with fewer parts to break down i.e power steering, power top, power gel dispenser etc....:p

Well today I will be picking up my 348 Spider after nonths of indicision., and being told I don't want a 348 because of this and that, so I've wavered between the two. Yhe 348 has won on looks, it is so sexy ! and the fact that it's a raw Ferrari without all the gizmos ,if you like the last of the non electronic cars and the last I believe that Enzo had a hand in.
The 355 was too much for me, too much of a big step upward, although based on the same car I felt it more suited to a hair dresser!!

Spend hours reading through the various threads here since the question has been asked and answer quite often - there's probably buyers guides too if you look - if you then have specific detailed questions everyone will be happy to help

Or as you were told last year in response to your first post :

The F355 is a more modern car, has powersteering and is easy to drive. But the 348 is also a great car to drive. I used both for trips with my wife to Italy and I loved every minute of it (1200km one way). But they are not real GT's.
The 512TR or 550M are definitely more comfortable GT's for the autobahn.

Go and testdrive a few of them. Buy the one that you like most. :)
    Good luck hunting.

    Thank all

well, yes, I will keep reading and learning more and more about Ferrari and all its models.

    The 348 looks just great.
Last of Enzo was involved in?

I have teste them, more than once, and I like them to......Hmmmm.

Guess it will come down to service cost, comfort on long trips. Here the 355 will win I guess. But the 348 a bit cheaper to maintain.

Tomorrow I will test a 348 spider, so will be back and let you all know how it did go.

One thing that is always a recurring factor in these types of threads. How insecure 348 owners are compared to 355 owners.:) 348 owners throw stones at 355 owners in an insecure self reassuring way.
But anyone for one moment mention what Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo thinks about the mistake that is the 348 ;) Talk about dummy's out of prams and grown men crying. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=259518&page=4&highlight=Luca+di+Montezemolo http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257634&highlight=Luca+di+Montezemolo
That should stoke the fire nicely:D

I'm not insecure about my 348. I could have bought a 355 or 360. But I always liked the looks of the 348. I think the other 2 look good too, but the 348 is just my favorite. Would never bad talk a 355 or 360. Beautiful cars. All the best in your search, Lou

PS, if your in SoCal, send me a message and we'll go for a ride......

    Nice post sambonydog ;) :D!!!

The 355 was the result of a major 'wake up call' at Ferrari! For one thing the 355 has ITBs just like F1 cars and was the most powerful normally aspirated production engine per liter on the planet, among many other 'firsts' ......... :) .............. as I have mentioned before ....... the 355 is not for everyone ............. if one has 'balls of steel' ............ the 355 awaits you ..................

Given the 355 is just a 348 with power steering and a few gadgets I'm not sure what your point is.. I've driven both and frankly thought the 355 was a girls version of the 348. Kinda like the 928 was for Porsche

    :p

He is right, 355's do get more girls, but I don't consider this a negative thing, I guess if you were gay then perhaps a 348 might suit you better... ;) (Not that there is anything wrong with that...)

Serious advice, go and drive both, provided you can afford the maintence on ether then your decision will be made easy after driveing eather model, buy the model you like the most. ;)

Both are the same basic car. Same chassis, different bumpers & door panels. The 355 has a few more horses & power steering.

Why do 348 and 355 owners bang heads so much? They're both Ferraris! Do the 360/430 guys do this too?

I think it has to do with the cars being so similar.. Kinda like having 2 good schools close together ala UF and Florida state.... it's all a matter of taste so when debating it's less about the cars and more about hair products or lack of

Well, Barbi did have a 355 Spyder. Weather its a 348 or a 355, does not matter. IMHO the Spyders are most relative to the Sally's and the Berlinettas are most relative to the Brute's. You don't see a lot of 348/355 Challenge Spyders around....

+1 ......... someone has to really dig deep to dislike a car with 375/380 HP, titanium rods, 5 valves per cylinder, ITBs, 6 speed gear box, beautiful magnesium wheels, cat bypass exhaust, 8750RPM rev cut off, timeless good looks and legendary F1 sound ..................... all from the factory ...... :)

.......... oh yeah, lets hate it because it has power steering and adaptable shocks ....... all that technology is just too dang 'space age'!!!! ............. ................ ;)

Interesting, but there is more to it than that, the things you mention are simply the "tip of the iceberg".

Need to hang around more ;) Its light hearted humor for most of us. Just something to brighten the day...
