I've been watching eBay for a long time, to see when the first 458 would be listed and at what price. This is the first one I've seen, blue, from Bentley Gold Coast, and asking just a wee bit over MSRP at 355k.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-458-458-Italia-Immediate-delivery-call-Roland-Kantor-847-343-2721-LQQK-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ250682674819QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

It's 'used', with 77 miles. Interesting to get opinions on the color. I like the interior combination of tan with the blue, esp. with the daytona-style blue inserts, but I can't say I am loving the blue exterior compared to other colors I've seen the car in.

I am not that sure that $355K is the MSRP or close to it. Sound like this "Buy It Now price" is quite a bit over MSRP.

Yeah, I'm a little shocked by that as well. I thought MSRP was supposed to be more around 270K, or so???

I'm a huge fan of most of the blue colors on most Ferrari's ---- and, I think it looks great on the 458, too :)

    I think it looks great!

    Needs the dark wheels though.

For that price, might as well wait for the spider version.

This is not a heavily-optioned car so its MSRP can't be much more than $255K, so it looks like they are trying to get $100K over sticker. It'll be interesting to see what they actually take for the car.

Personally, I love the colors on this car, though I'd have used Crema or Beige instead of Cuoio as the contrast would have been nicer. Even if they were offering it at MSRP, the only reason I'd pass on it is because the only way I'll get a shot at being an early buyer of the eventual Spider is to first give my local dealer the Coupe sale and then trade the Coupe on the Spider. Buying the 458 Spider is my ultimate goal.

BTW, the owner of Gold Coast is very negotiable and they are very nice people to deal with. I bought my current 2010 Continental GTC Speed from them in January and they were a pleasure to do biz with and gave me an awesome deal on my gorgeous car. I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat, just not a 458 Coupe for the reason stated above.

I am sure Ferrari would like to know what dealer sold this to them or the dealer that sold it to a customer that flipped it this fast. That should be the last time that customer ever gets a Ferrari from a Ferrari dealer.

If you go to the Gold Coast Web site on one of the pictures you can see someone got the car over 100 mph in the first 40 miles.

Which is probably the single most stupid act a dealer can do. The guys at a high end dealer in St. Louis did it and posted it on you tube, they were prosecuted.

In case anyone missed the implied sarcasm, my 'wee bit' statement was meant to be sarcastic!

I was guessing close to a 100k markup over MSRP, which kind of makes me sick.

I love the spec on that car. TDF is defiantly my second favorite Ferrari color behind Rosso Corsa. I would also think that whom ever ordered this car has a really good relationship with their dealer and will be able to order more cars. I hope it finds a good home with someone who flogs the crap out of it. :)

Yes along with others. Keep in mind they are a huge asset to their community where they are located and a great bunch of car guys, ended up being a very expensive / PR lesson.

I thought all their videos were taken down.

To alleviate some pain ;) the correct figure would be within the first 77 miles. The picture you are talking about displays ml [A], which is Trip A's mileage, not the total mileage of the car.

It's interesting to see how long that picture will be there...Quite a ****-up...

Hawkeye here was correct when he thought Bentley Gold Coast would get one of the first 458 models to be offered for resale!

The 100+ speed is as a result of factory test drive and not joy ride, mine was near 120 MPH on the computer. No big deal.

What is a big deal is this car on eBay. The car should go back to dealer from which it was sold as this is the exact situation Ferrari wants to avoid (458's on eBay this year). Would bet FNA will be on phone with dealer owner tomorrow morning, pulling allocations is in order for sure. The first eBay flipper had the white 458 that is now back at dealer (Algar).

I used to think Red was my fav color on the 458 but now I don't know. That blue looks very nice. Ditto on the flogging comment. Flogged while on the road babied while not. To a good home indeed!

I'm sorry for maybe a stupid question, but I'm from Europe and don't know eBay that well, so why is this so bad?

I understand that if a customer immediately flips the car he should be punished by not getting an early allocation "next time", but if a car is on the aftermarket, what does it matter if it's sold by the original dealer or not?

    Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with selling one's car on eBay. Dealers and private parties do it all the time. The real issue is the fact that someone used his influence to be able to order an early production 458 and then decided to sell it - probably for a profit - to a middleman, not the buyer's original Ferrari dealer - thus providing the third party an opportunity for a profit while depriving the Ferrari dealer of that profit. If you were that Ferrari dealer and knew that your customer was speculating in Ferraris, not buying them for personal enjoyment, and he comes back and wants to get on the list for a Spider, would you even give him the time of day?

One of the main reasons I am on my local Ferrari dealer's wait list for a 458 Coupe is because I will then be in line to get on his list for a Spider, which is what I am really looking to own. The Coupe is a stepping stone toward the Spider for me. I'll make my dealer abundantly aware the day I take delivery of my Coupe sometime in 2011, that my intention is to trade my Coupe back in to them as soon as they can put me in a Spider. They'll see large dollar $ign$ and are more likely to continue to take me seriously and thus put me solidly on the Spider waiting list.

Hope this explains it. I don't think it's anything culturally different between the States and Europe. I think the same conditions apply on both sides of the pond.

Every Ferrari dealer will know which dealer sold this car on Monday am as the VIN number is on it. I hope Ferrari takes all that dealers allocation of future 458's and gives it to the dealers that have lists of buyers waiting to order.......

I have had conversations with one dealer, they require a signed first right of refusal. The first right to exercise a purchase at MSRP which would stop the whole mess.

First thanks for 458Spiderman for a good answer.

Your proposition sounds quite harsh because it's not in the hands of the original dealer what the customer does with his car. If the dealer sold the car in good faith (i.e. not suspecting speculation/flip) how could they be blamed for something that the customer did?

Of course this customer should be blacklisted for future deals.

You are correct it is the customer that should be banned. If the facts come to light it was the dealer that knew of the flip then FNA should go after the dealer for bad faith. For some reason this dealer in the Midwest gets car's before the dealers sometimes do. With the California when it first came out at one time they had 5 of them and the Midwest dealers where trying to get cars from FNA for confirmed orders.
