We've barely finished the last eco fuel bandwagon with phasing out of lead

Given it took Ferrari about a decade to confirm compatibility that time do not expect an answer before at least 2020....

So we'll have to replace some rubber seals and fuel lines.

That's probably not a bad thing considering the propensity such items on older cars to perish and cause a fire!

As with the removal of lead it will take a little planning research but there will be ways round it. I see there are already additives on the market for the ethanol issue.

Do any of our American Friends have any thoughts on this as I believe they alreay have petrol with more ethanol than out own (could have to stand corrected on that)?

Most of our gas is E10. 10% ethanol. No real problems that I know of running it in old cars. I have friends with old cars. Fill up at E10 pump just like everyone else. I own a Superformance Cobra with a Ford Motorsport engine. Holley carb. Runs fine on 93 octane pump gas.

    I found this website...

    http://www.fuel-testers.com/ethanol_engine_precautions.html

If they up the % over 10%, there may be issues.

I wish Ethanol would go away. It only exists because it has government $ to support it. Politicians in the corn growing states love it. Most other people would like to see it gone.

I've copied the OP's link to a thread in the Dutch section. According to some 98 RON does not have ethanol in it so if you only use 98 RON you should be fine. Having said that I don't know how the situation in the UK is. Knowing that there are many differences between the countries on the mainland, I wouldn't be surprised if our situation doesn't apply in the UK.

In any case the fuel lines in my 308 have been replaced with modern, stronger lines. The fuel is eating the lines from the inside so don't believe your own eyes when you look at your shiny lines. Squeeze them and if they feel moist you know you're in trouble and should replace them asap.

    Best regards,

    Peter
