At the risk of being politically incorrect, I am going to go on record
and state that other than Ferrari's 575 GTZ Zagato, there has never
been a sexier or more alluring vehicle ever produced than the original
    Dino GTs.

Given that the GTZ was a design anomaly, simply too beautiful and
intricate to ever be mass-produced, makes the production of the Dino
GTs all that more special and unique. It does so for roughly 1/10th the
price, making these vehicles a true value in a market that has few, if
    any.

The original Dino GT design was based on several of PininFarina's earlier
show and race cars of the mid-1960s. These were cleverly transformed
into a production car with an impossibly perfect shape that begs to be
looked at, even caressed. One of my own fondest memories was washing by
hand the first example I acquired for my own humble collection many
years ago. Every line and compound curve invited closer observation and
investigation. That was nearly 20 years ago and now forty plus years
after these cars were built, the design and fluid shape remains
    completely and utterly timeless!

The Dino was not without limitation or fault. Corrosion and mechanical
issues with the originally designed timing chain tensioners and cam
bearings as well as the camshafts themselves caused owners no end of
grief. They were never the fastest or most capable vehicles of their
day but have always been a machine greater than the sum of their
individual components or features. Most importantly, the Dino GT
translates very well to the "real world" today. Spirited driving in and
out of town is rewarded with near perfect handling and a sound that is
simply hypnotic. While accident damage and improperly repaired
corrosion issues are to be avoided, updates to the mechanical maladies
that were common with these cars have long since addressed these
    issues.

Today, I am very happy to bring this particular example to your
attention and hope you enjoy what I am about to share.

    Year 1972

    Gearbox No. 901E
    Body No. 900

Interior Color Black (Nero 161 vinyl black.)
    Dealer S.A.S. Motors (Roma/Bologna, Italia)
    Mileage 39,697 kilometers

    Chassis *03978*
This particular Dino is a standard, mid-production
European "E Model" version and it was assembled for domestic "European"
or normal delivery in May of 1972.

It was sequentially recorded as the 923 of 1,624 examples completed
between 1971 and the end of 246GT production in the Spring of 1974. The
Carrozzeria Scaglietti Job/Body and Assembly Sequence Number for
chassis 03978 is "900" and this can be found stamped, stenciled and
etched on various components throughout the car.

This Dino was assembled with a normal Tipo 135CS engine with the
internal number, "135 cs *0009726*" and with a standard gearbox with
internal number "901E." This engine and gearbox remain fitted to this
day making this an all "matching numbers" example.

The Ferrari Factory records the completion date as May 15th, 1972.
The car was ordered and sold new by the official Ferrari for Rome and
Bologna, S.A.S. Motors. It was assembled with no known options and
originally finished in blue (Azzurro Dino 10-A-349) with a black interior
    (Nero 161 vinyl black.)

In June of 1987, the car was owned and offered for sale by MDR
Enterprises, 9815 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA, 90210. The car had
been painted at some point from the original blue to "Fly Yellow" and
mileage was stated to be 37,500 original kilometers. The actual mileage
was however in fact 37,275 as this was formally recorded by the
Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles on July 8th, 1987 when the car
was sold to by Big A Auto / Harley Tri, IMC of 1345 RT. 37, Tomsriver,
New Jersey whom had purchased the car from MDR Enterprises. The new
owner was Dr. Albert C. Weihl of 1203 Durham Road, Madison, CT 06443.

On November 10th, 1987, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles
processed the purchase documents and issued new ownership paperwork to
Mr. Weihl and the car was assigned Connecticut plates "466EZF." On
October 17th, 1987, David ? reported purchasing the car from a New
Hampshire owner and shortly thereafter began working to get the car
back on the road. On July 20th, 2011, ownership formally changed from
Albert C. Weil to S. G. Dunn a private collector as well as licensed
California Dealer. Total mileage recorded at the time of sale was
    39,609 kilometers.

On September 26th, 2011, ownership formally changed to Symbolic
Motor Car Company, 7440 La Jolla Blvd., La Jolla, CA 92037,
a licensed California Dealer. Total mileage recorded at time of sale
    was 39,696 kilometers.

Over the past seven months, from early August, 2011 until February 3rd,
2012, the Dino has had a complete rebuild of the engine, gearbox,
suspension, brakes and a thorough sorting and set up for daily use. Our
shop stripped, prepared and painted the entire car over a four week
period in January of this year.

The car shows no signs of accident damage ever and is corrosion free.
It is by no means an over-restored show car and has both a well-known,
well-understood history and shows clearly that the car has been used
and enjoyed by her previous owners as intended when built and sold new
forty years ago, this month! With that understanding, all interested
parties are welcome to contact me arrange for inspections, test-drives
or simply to view this very beautiful "Pure-European" model Dino GT.

Please feel free to forward and share the contents of this email with
anyone you wish. If you no longer wish to receive updates on these and
similar vehicles that come my way, simply email me back with the word
"delete" in the subject line and I will remove your contact details
    without delay.

    Warm regards always,

    All,

These are not my words, they are from Bill Noon. Just thought it would be of interest. Maybe Bill Noon could post some images. I tried to post the one from his mass email but My iPad wouldn't cooperate. I have no idea of price.

    Hi Guys,

Got some fairly good input and updates on the car's history from many today. I need to tread lightly here as I am a low level individual member and do not want to offend the esteemed sponsors of this incredible site and Rob's kindness to allow me to share and provide input on things from time to time.

The car is out for a proper PPI and hoping it will find the caretaker it deserves in short order.

Here is proper chronological history and notes without sales details:

For us curious, and some what crazy, Dino guys, this car has been the subject of another thread back in the fall.

By all accounts, it is now as mechanically sound as one would like to be able to drive an enjoy the tar out of it.

We will know shortly if it turns to "SOLD", but for those of us who ask these types of things, the initial asking price was $169k......with an offer to buy subject to a PPI, almost immediately. I do not know what was offered or any of those details, but what a great car with legit history.

My Dino, *03932* was also sold at the same dealership at the same time. You never know, maybe they sat next to each other? Mine had a completion date 8 days after but having a lower chassis number by 23 cars.

    *03932* history:
    April 1972: Ferrari build sheet
May 23, 1972: Ferrari Certificate of Origin
May 26, 1972: Owner#1/New Sale by Motor, Ferrari Dealer Bologne to Mr. Gianfranco Pattera of Parma (Reg: PR201.444)

This one is staying here in the States with an outstanding gentleman. Another slightly earlier GT is on the way to us and should be here in several weeks to replace this one.

Hope to see some of you this weekend at the Desert Classic Concours in Palm Springs.

    Ciao,

    Bill
