Very sorry you had such a bad experience with the Gullwing salesman. Unfortunately that is too typical of the way people are treated by car dealerships after the sale is completed. I tried to get information about my C/4 from an outfit in Texas who owned it before myself and got nowhere. These folks do not realize they are dealing not only in cars but also history, especially with a car like the C/4 where there may only be 350 still in existence. I will post a thread on the C/4 owners website about your post in hopes the new owner regsiters the car.

Wow, what is interesting to me about the pouch is I worked for Burke Jaguar back in the early to mid 90's.

 

That is sad, sad, sad.......here's hoping your efforts are rewarded.

I know for myself I would be greatly interested in the pouch/books.

Maybe they sold it a "Accident Free History" and their shorts puckered up, when they heard of the ditch excursion??

 

Things like that handwritten Bill of Sale are hugely interesting, to those who value the car's ownership history.

My #20405 is missing the books, and therefore a huge hole in the record of the car, between 1976 and 1981......it was wrecked, and color changed, after the fire!

There are clues!

That is so short-sighted on the part of the Gullwing salesman!

 

Peter Kumar. Gullwing sells around 500 cars a year. They are perhaps the largest used car dealer in the US who deals with vintage European cars. They take them in absolutely any condition. A few years ago their indoor warehouse/showroom looked like an indoor wrecking yard with what looked like cars in all shapes and sizes pulled out of farmers fields and junk yards. Lately they are getting higher quality stuff. They don't care about the history or the shape of the car but at the same time they won't tell you something is perfect when it isn't. And they, to some extent, price accordingly. That said, if you see Gullwing in a cars history file chances are, at some point in it's life, it was somewhat of a wreck.

 

FerrariLitierature has my set for a 1976 308GTB at $4500USD, so yes, a nice full set like that, in such good condition, may mean "They'll get it".

A also agree it is worth 'the most" to the right car, as the Warranty Coupon book has VIN and Dealership info. Once "gone", it's gone.

 

I'm the new owner of # 15811, an appreciate all the new information on the car. The paper work is interesting, and I am interested in talking to the owner about obtaining it.

I did reach out to Gullwing on this car a while back during my C4 search. Seemed rough but I didn't see it in person.

Good luck finding the new owner. The conversation is going to be awkward though. "Hello sir, good news for you, I found your original books! You'll have to pay up though. $6 thousand USD. Oh, you don't like the price? Sorry to hear that. . . . . . . . Oh, by the way, the car you just bought was severely wrecked a while back!!! Oops!!"
