Guys, Thinking of giving up the Boxer and 575 and completely classic... Kinda fed up of the "normal" Ferrari experience for now....need something more interesting ! Any suggestions of were to look for a nice 250 SWB, I know about Paul Baber, anyone else ? I know I won't be able to afford a SEFAC but I can dream. Seb
Good luck ! The SWB is one of my fav Ferrari ever. Im always looking at them and they are so hard to find. Try classicdriver.com , last i have seen was on there.

Bob Houghton has one :- http://www.racecar.co.uk/bobhoughton/index.htm 1964 Model 250 GT Lusso Chassis No. 5317 Reg No. ENP662B Description JAN 1964 250GT Lusso ENP662B, #5317 LHD car sold new in Belgium. 1 of only 348. Second place in class at 2004 Ferrari Owners Club Concours. Originally red /black. Changed to yellow in the 1970's when it shared garage space with a 250 GTO in the collection of Dr. Robert L. Bodin. Sold on to Ed Weschler in Wisconsin via dealers Joe Marchetti / Richard Buxbaum in 1978 or '79. In the late 1980's it was owned by someone in Lexington, Kentucky. Total restoration was carried out in 1989/1990. At this time it probably reverted to red with a new tan interior. FAF Motorcars in Georgia sold the car in 1992 with a documented 65,610 kms. In 1993 someone owned the car in Cape Coral, Florida. Between November 1993 and 2003 the car was in Japan. Reimported into Europe by Belgian dealer Marcel Roks showing just over 70,500kms. Now fully tax paid, reconditioned as necessary & UK registered with MOT certificate to April 2005 - Finance packages available we can provide very competitive figures, Just ask for an example. Price 189950 so does Joe Macari I think.
Try http://www.gregorfisken.com/ He's got a lovely looking 250 TdeF Hall and Hall also worth a look? Get a California!
http://www.dkeng.co.uk They don't have an SWB listed but there is a very nice looking GTO (recreation) for £295k
DKE, Bob Houghton, Mike Wheeler and Paul Baber are the people I'd be inclined to ask. Maybe Nick Cartwright too. Awesome cars. Big jump mind from the BB and 575. If you do get one, don't suppose I could blag a ride Sadly my budget wouldn't stretch quite that far.
Robert thanks for that - Love the TdF's (note my Avatar)...but not sure about the one Gregor has.....Oro Met with Bordeaux Leather, histroy is fantastic though, kinda thinking it'll be to expensive too ??? California - I wish, saw Frank Sytner's on show at Graypaul's a few month's ago, truly beautiful but more than a Million each, I think they're only stuff of dreams for 99.99% of us ! Although did sit in Steve Pilkington's once before he sold it.... SWB's seem extremely thin on the ground, even the stell bodied ones which I assumed I would be more likely to obtain.... Thanks for all your input - Murph, Yes big jump...inherited some money and want to enjoy it & I think I deserve it ? Seb
Seb, love the SWB and glad to hear that you're considering a purchase. Please do post some piccys as and when you get. beautiful car, I'm very jealous ! R
Seb- events such as in London last week remind us to "seize the day" and you were closer than most to the aftermath. I'd have thought that classic Ferraris like that are rarely advertised, but I reckon if you put the word out amongst specialists, they'll know you are looking and may know of owners who are contemplating selling. You might also consider looking internationally? You may also wish to add GTO Engineering near Reading to your list as they work on similar cars. I also saw a couple of SWBs at Martin Stretton's in Worcs a few years ago. I have a model California on my desk in front of me- about as close as I'll get I fear, but helps motivation, especially on a nice hot day...!
Hmmmm, After speaking with a number of specialist locaters of these vehicles, it would seem that I may have set my sights a little to high, (he said back peddling ever so slightly & with massive understatement), So looks like a either a Lusso, PF Coupe or Cab, Cheap TdF or a GTE....Still not shabby but not what I really wanted. Now I'm not a big fan of recreation's, especially when they're based on real old Ferrari's......(Let's face it, alot of GTE engines ended up being transplanted into SWB's and other places anyway).....But if it's the only way I'm going to get into a SWB then so be it, Anyone know of any knocking around ??? Failing that, I'm on the hunt for any nice (unusual) 250 .... Already talking to Jeremy at DK about the Series 1 PF Cab..btw. Seb
Dunno what your budget is, but there is a nice sounding Lusso with this lot; http://www.racecar.co.uk/bramley/
It is funny that this topic has come up, we love the looks of the 250 Cal spyder however are unable to raise the required captial, so we are looking into a good recreation. We found one kit manufacturer which was a poor imitation with corvette running gear, not what we wanted at all. We are maybe looking a a recreation with a modern twist, I'm thinking about the possibility of a 250 recreated on a 550 platform. I have found a company in the states who have made a full aluminium bodied recreation with ferrari parts and running gear.
I'd have thought Lynx http://www.lynxmotors.co.uk/index1.htm would be a good port of call- they have all the know-how and their recreations of l/w e-types, XJ13 etc are just stunning. They've have done some great works with Ferraris too.
You will no doubt know that John Mayston-Taylor of Lynx is a Ferrari owner himself. Having sold his fabulous Lusso, his 275 GTB/4 is featured in the current Classic & Sportscar.
Have you tried talking to Adrian at Duncan Hamilton? he really knows his stuff on the older Ferraris and you will be surprised at how many cars he has dealt with. They are very discreet and a lot of the cars they sell are not advertised.
I do, In fact I read the feature again last night, very good and a fantastic find for him - Lucky git....joking it truly is a beautiful looking car, especially like it in that NART Blu colour and tan leather, in the article it says he's had a Lusso and DB4 GT - good taste. But I think a 275 is still abit to modern for me !!! Seb
I would certainly call DK Engineering. They look after a business acquaitance's 250SWB (including prepping it for Goodwood Revival etc.). The proprietor also owns a 275GTB and they look after several more for clients. I was lucky enough to have a ride in one of these a couple of weeks back. Steve
I'm not sure I've seen any 250SWB recreations. People tend to do GTOs instead IME. Lussos are gorgeous cars, but not the same sort of motor. RHD ones are 180k+ at the moment I believe. 275s are meant to be awesome drivers, but personally I'm not convinced about the styling. The front just looks too heavy. Either way, I believe these are currently 200k-400k+ depending on the engine (2 or 4 cam) and history. 250PFs are nice enough, but again not the same sort of car. Am not sure how many RHD there are (if that's a priority) or what they're selling for right now. I would guess they're going to be 150-200k. Outside of the Ferrari fold, is a Miura too new? Truly awesome looking machines (my #2 of all time, after the 250SWB). 180-200k seems to be the mark for the best RHD SVs (or at least, that's the price I've seen one or two advertised at). If it's the style of the 250 you're looking at, why not look more closely at Astons? Well sorted DB4s are actually very nice cars on the road, sound awesome and look lovely too (especially with flared wings, no bumpers and sorted suspension). Drop me a mail if you want any more pointers as I regularly play this out to myself. And having just bought a classic, I can confirm you won't be disappointed....
