Does anyone have a Bosch fuel pump part # for a 85 Mondial QV ( I have the ferrari part # already) , it is on the back side of the pump and I can't get to it with taking off both of the fuel lines. This just seemed easier to post right now. I am getting voltage there when cranking but the pump is not making any sound, it will not even prime. I am trying to track down a cause of a hard to rev and start motor, it just fells like it is towing a large boat. It happened pulling away from a traffic light, just like a switch went off. I am doing all of the easy stuff first, I just hope that one of the timing belts did not just jump a tooth. I will get to that after all the other stuff fails to fix it.

Any know what the "Accumulator part# 113978" does, it is post fuel pump and pre fuel filter?

    Thanks you

    Chris

Basically the fuel accumulator helps to smooth out any flutuations in the flow of the fuel to the main fuel system. It's other role is to maintain fuel pressure in the system when the engine has been turned off.

The fuel accumulator "sits" between the fuel pump and the fuel filter.

What Ferrari part number are you using for the fuel pump?

Thanks for the info, Ferrari part # 113976 which I found out is Bosch part # 69523, and it looks to be easy to find. The Bosch Fuel filter # came up as a Volvo part # and were very cheap I might add, I got three just to have around.

I am still a bit unsure about the role of the accumulator as far as pressure goes, As you described it, I thought that was the role of the primary pressure regulator. Is this part just a passive one way valve inside? Can I just bypass it? Why would I want to maintain fuel pressure when the car is off? This is the first time I have heard of this, I learn something new each time I am on this site.

    All the best

    Chris,

No you cannot remove the accumulator, to explain further - after a journey and then when the engine is turned off the temperature under the bonnet increases and causes the fuel in the lines to heat and can cause evaporation.
At the point the engine is switched off the non-return valves close, the spring and the diaphragm inside the accumulator then pushes against the fuel thus maintaining the fuel pressure so eliminating any evaporation in the system.

The only way to check this is to install a pressure guage and measure the fuel pressure for "leaks". The minimum pressure after 10 minutes should be no lower than 1.7 bar and after 20 minutes 1.5 bar.

Got it, Thanks! I will have a few hours today to kick around under the car and see what is going on.

To check your accumulator, Remove the small slip on hose from it and run the fuel pump (unplug the safty shutoff switch) and see if fuel runs out the nipple that the small hose was connected to, If it does the accumulator is bad. The bosch P/Ns are fuel pump 0 580 254 975 (common M-B part)
    accumulator 0 438 170 004 (common M-B part)
    fuel filter 0 450 905 601 (used on a lot of cars)
IPCO is a bosch dealer call Mike Lewis (owner) 770-381-1114
tell him Larry Fletcher sent you
