Just got back from getting my friend's new 430 lowered and aligned. This one was out of factory specs too! Any excuse to post pics of this beautiful silverstone car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Remember that specs are set with two passengers and half a tank of fuel. This will add camber and affect toe on the car from its unladen static alignment.
Jack are you sure the 430's are out of alignment? It seems strange every one of the 430's are coming from the factory in that condition.
Jack - would you share the specs of the set up on your car? I am 3000 miles away and that's a bit far to go for a suspension set-up. Regards,
Yes sir, that's what the service manual says -- to be exact: 75kg on each seat with 50 litres of fuel and don't forget 15kg on each mudguard. Of course, if your corner balancing the car (with only the driver) you would be altering the ballast you use. Nick, don't worry your car won't be off by that much and for tooling around town you won't notice anything odd. I apologize if I've given you that impression -- you won't have to run out and get your new 430 aligned. The camber is w/in spec (with the factory erring on the side of being conservative) although we wanted a bit more negative in the front than 1 degree. The toe was the only item off and it was on the right rear. Of course, since we're spending the time and money to slightly lower the car and realign it, we might as well go a bit more aggressive on the front toe (i.e., less toe-in, which helps with turn in) and make sure we have enough toe-in out back (to avoid that twitchy rear end under certain circumstances, e.g. heavy/hard braking after that long straight).
Hi Bob, As to alignment specs, just like you've done on your GT3, you can tweak the factory specs to suit your personal preferences. We've gone with settings that fall between the factory recommended 430 spec (virtually identical to the 360) and the CS settings. I know that some of the serious CS "tracksters" have gone with more (than factory recommended) negative camber, especially up front. 430 factory specs (w/ballast and gas as set forth in the above post): camber: front wheels- negative 1 degree (+/-) .16 degrees rear wheels- negative 1.5 degrees (+/-) .16 degrees Total toe-in front wheels- 2.5mm (+/-) .5mm 1mm= ~.1333 degrees rear wheels- 4.0mm (+/-) .5mm We've gone with: front- negative camber of ~1.3 to 1.4, and toe-in (per side) of.09 degrees rear- negative camber of ~1.8 and toe-in (per side) of .27 degrees Hope this makes sense to you. Btw, thanks for all your great work on Rennlist.
rule of thumb, don't argue alignment with jack. did u bring the ''book'' in today? Jack, sorry i missed u, amir. did u have spicy shrimp today??
Arling, No spicy shrimp today. How's the CGT? -- you lucky guy! Post a PIC or two, even us F-chatters appreciate a P-car photo once and awhile.
Not to digress but it looks like silverstone almsot has a brown tint to it in certain lights. a dynamic and absolutely stunnign color! the new canna di fucile?? --Dan
Interesting that the fronts have toe-in. Is this to avoid tracking on the highway? I'd figure a touch to toe-out would be optimal, esp. on the track.
Yes Dan, it is metallic dirt...perfect for you 430 is gorgeous. GS looks brownish in some light, blueish in others. I think there is some red in there, so looks brown with blue-hued pics Jack, do you have any suggestions for a 550 and a 575SA alignment?? My 550 seems to push/wash out/float in mod (70-90mph) crested sweepers. Factory spec not doing it for me. Maranelloman may have specs, but I would look for second opinion anyway PM OK if thread hijack in progress
Exactly. 0 or a touch of toe-out would probably be the more ideal track setting. I do run front toe-out on the Lotus Elise.
