Guys, thanks for the helpful advice earlier today: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72115 I washed the car very carefully tonight, twice, with a brand new sponge after hosing it down vigourously. When I came to dry it using a blade and a chamois the paintwork looks almost greasy, showing up smears and swirl marks and generally looking really uncared for. The car had barely a swirl mark or anything prior to this and the paintwork was nigh on perfect (had the spoiler and buttresses painted two weeks ago. I am absolutely truly gutted, I've worked real hard on my car to make it really really nice. WTF do I do now? I'm scared to start polishing it in case i do more damage!
**** Adam, I would imagine it can be sorted. I must admit i would have done the same as you, i think most folk would have. Advise just getting a professional on it now obviously. Regards, Matthew
Get a clay bar and go over paintwork with that after washing again. Can you post a pic or is it too painful?
Mate....get a professional to have a look at it before you do anything else. My cousin had a concours Golf GTi and while on the motorway, he managed to get cement on the car. He was gutted. Dave the zymol guy cleaned it up no problem.
I second that. I had my 355 resprayed early this year, and using Autoglym Super resin was ok, but the swirl marks never disappeared. I HD cleansed it two weeks ago, then Zymoled it using Titanium, and the swirl marks have disappeared. You must remember to not polish in a circular motion, but in a straight action along the length of the car. This also applies to leathering off. Good luck!
anyone got Zymol Daves number, where is he based? Will he travel to Staffordshire? Can he come tonight?.......well perhaps not the last one. The car seems greasy, tempted to go and wash it again with Fairy liquid, then again with the usual stuff. TonyH, would post a pic but my cameras shot
Don't go down the fairy liquid road. Also, you need to ask yourself "why has the wax not protected my pride and joy from the evil menace, sawdust". Have we the full picture here, hazy ? Gina has exquisite 25 year old paintwork, and she lives in a workshop that has helped fully renovate a modest period property over the last seven years. Not always has she been covered. cheers, d
just been out and polished a corner of the roof with Autoglym super resin, but it just looks terrible. Who's used Dave? Whats it gonna cost? I am never ever ever leaving the cover off the car again.
If you want to get rid of the grease use a product called Panel Wipe, available from most motor factors. This is a mild thinner/degreaser. Then you will have to reapply your wax.
I think the following is the way to do it. 1. Degrease the car. 2. Apply tar remover (if required). 3. Claybar with lubricant 4. Zymol HD cleanse 5. Apply zymol
Here's his number 07970 713062 He's based in the West Mids and travels nationwide so Staffs won't be an issue Think he charges around £250 normally and everybody who's used him has been very happy so far His user name is DBValeting There's also another bloke on here called SpecialistDetailer (based in Yorkshire) who uses Swissol I believe. Might be worth contacting them both and seeing who gives you the best price! Ps I'm not on commision
I second that emotion but don't try inflating it in your living room first like I did. Makes it difficult to open the door to get out of the room!
Adam Dave charges around £250 I think (there' was an offer on Pistonheads for around this amount) got a feeling he's up your way too, anyway i think his rates inc travelling anyway I've not used him but seen loads of excellent pics/positive testimonials of his work btw don;t use Autoglym it's crap........never thought i'd say that having used it for years, I'm now using Meguiars which is staggeringly good although Zymol (as Dave uses) is regarded as being even better
Thanks guys, will be onto Dave tomorrow 1st thing First the fuel, then the farmers, now this! Talk about give a guy a break ay?
I'll say one word to you airfield day. **** thats two, but you know who's gonna be the Daddy, the 355's are gonna eat all the 'ickle pretend Testas Then later in the pub...... Large order of pride for Mr Angelis to swallow please! Followed by a generous helping of humble pie!
I'm sure Dave would be able to sort this. Just don't make it worse by trying to do it yourself anymore. Call me a wuss, but using the clay bar is something I'd never do on my own. Too much potential for screwing it up, and the result would be particularly expensive and tear inducing. And there's no way I'd be using fairy liquid on it, whether "it's only a car" or not. Sorry you're having a 'mare. Your original post sounded like you were unsure about tackling it...always trust your instincts!
OK let's get a few things straight. 1. Neither I or any of my 348 brothers have ever said our cars were faster. 2. Most importantly.........make sure you varnish the car when you bring it to the Airfield, as it may rain. Image Unavailable, Please Login
