My wife and I were having a "night out" without the kid Saturday night. We are less than a few miles from our house heading for dinner and as I come over a little hill I see a car on the other side of the road (in my lane) heading right for us. To my right is a row of concrete construction barriers, to the left is oncoming traffic. So I lock up the brakes (way too late), this woman slams into the front of my 82 308 GTSI and you can see the results in the picture.

She gets out of the car and says "I don't know what I was doing, I was confused". Unreal!!!!!! See that solid yellow line in the center of the road, all you have to do is stay on your side of it!

The good news is my wife and I are both alive, although she is very sore and bruised up a little bit.

I will be having the car dropped off at Flashback Monday morning so they can see what needs to be done. Obviously her insurance will be paying for the repair but I still can't believe this happened. I have had this car for 6 weeks and am still a little stunned.

Be careful out there, there are some clueless drivers!!!

Geez, good to hear you're both ok. Cars can be fixed, but it's amazing who's out there driving completely clueless. Was she DUI?

After that initial shock of hitting a car.... I wonder what shock is felt when the person realizes they've hit a Ferrari.

Everyone is safe, your car looks repairable from the picture, hope everything turns out good.

Good news that no one was hurt badly...

For a head on - the damage doesn't look that bad from that angle - how fast were you both going - or was she hitting the breaks as well...

I'm glad everyone will be ok.

Were there witnesses? Did the police charge this person? Be careful, because the person that hit me tried to blame me. If I didn't have the police report indicating they were at fault it would have been messy. Even with that, it took over a month for them to come around.

All things considered, the car doesn't look too bad. It's a good thing you're in Cumming, since at least Flashback is convenient for you. I'm sure they will do a top-notch job.

I haven't had any such problems around here, but over the weekend in Palm Beach County, I had to swerve 3 times (in 20 minutes!) to avoid idiots pulling out of driveways or side streets in front of me. My rented Hyundai Elantra handled surprisingly well.....

She was not DUI just DWS (Driving While Stupid!)

We were both hitting our brakes and that helped keep the impact down to a minimum. I am not sure how fast we were going when we finally collided, it was just a big blur!

She did get a ticket for the accident, plus there were several witnesses so I think I am all set.

The police also told me if there are any problems to let them know. I am just glad she had insurance, now we will get to see how good it is!

Andy......... yea, Robert said you stopped tonight, and mentioned the bad news. Needless to say I was speechless for a minute when he came in and told me..... Great to hear both you and the wife are ok!!!!!

If there is any good from this, Flashback will to a super job on the repair! (We stopped in Saturday to visit and saw yet another super job on a silver Dino).

Interesting you mention "head on". Wife was in the H2 Friday, out in the center waiting to make that left back into Echols, and traffic on both sides. (you know the drill). Van comes head on towards her and all she could do was flash her lights and luckily they moved just a little before where she was.........

Just good to hear you guys are ok.....

    Bob,

It could have been a lot worse that is for sure!

I am sure it will look great when Flashback gets done with it. I am going by in the morning to see what they think and provide them all the info from the police so they can contact her insurance company.

I am already looking forward to having her back in the garage soon!!!

    Andrew,

I'm glad to hear you and your wife are okay. Sorry to hear to was in your 308. I don't think you mentioned what type of car the lady was driving that hit you. I think you can count your blessings it wasn't a Hummer, or worse yet, a delivery truck. I have my big full size Chevy Silverado for my daily driver and I think about that when I travel and get a small rental car. I feel so much more vulnerable in my rented econo-car!

After seeing Flashback Motorworks on Saturday, I have no doubt your 308 will be in good hands there! I was very impressed by their operation and would not hesitate to take my future F-car there.

Glad to hear you and your wife are okay.

Sorry to hear that happen to you. Glad you and wife are ok.
I wolud probably be really so furious that I don't know what to do in such situation. It's obvious that the other driver was not concentraded on her driving. But that's accident.... Just forget about it for a week and the car will be perfect as before.

Your front upper body torn like it was fiberglass???

Thanks for the kind words from everyone, thankfully we are both OK.

I just came from Flashback and they said it certainly can be repaired but will be 15-18k to do so and about 4-6 weeks timeline. I am eagerly awaiting her return to my garage already.

P.S. I do not know if she was on her cell phone, it might explain her lapse in concentration!

You know lately I have had a few near misses in my 308, each one has been an idiot swerving into my lane/path during comuting times. I now try and avoid the 400/285 and even driving the 308 during work hours as its just no fun and too nerve racking. I wonder if people can't see us because the cars are too low from them sitting up high in SUVs and trucks?

I watched a girl back into the side of my 308 while she was on the phone last March. It was parked and she just went straight back into it. I could hardly believe my eyes. How about next time finish the phone call before NOT watching where you go?

Glad to hear everyone was ok and she did not run up the hood of the car. I picture that scenerio way too many times in my head.

As far as her insurance companies goes, I hate to say you might have a long battle with them. They will only want to pay what they deam as the going rate for a "typical" body shop. Not one that can actually repair cars of this caliber and understand what it takes to make it what it was. That rate is typically $10-20 less an hour then a GOOD body shop will charge. I only speak of this as I was just rear ended a couple of weekends ago in the M-B. It is worth the fight, but from what I was told by the state, what I cannot negotiate now for them to pay, I can file in small claims court against the girl who hit me. When I win, and I will, her insurance company then has to pay out the difference that they should have paid in the beginning.

Trust me my friend, fight them for all your cars worth and don't forget about diminished value once it is fixed. They owe you that one also.

Good luck on the car being fixed. We all know FlashBack will do a great job.
