Finally it is finished; based on s/n 22409 for sale by Sheehan:

    http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-308M-22409

Here a list of donor parts I used for this mod:
    - car Kyosho 1/18 308 carbed
    - head lights Lancia Stratos Rally
    - wiper unknown
    - right side mirror 360 Challenge
    - copilot dash F40
    - seats Stratos
    - belts F40
    - fire extinguisher Stratos
    - roll cage 360 Challenge
    - exhaust Stratos
    - cavallo rampante 288 GTO
    - guard flaps Stratos

The rest was self made from scratch. For comparison I shot the pics with an unmodified 308 Kyosho. The fotographs of the real car are taken from Sheehan's website:

That's very kind of you. Thanks.

It is far from perfect though. But about as good as I can do. Oh well. And just while posting the pics I realized some mistakes, like putting the antenna too much forward.

My main goal was to have some kind of representation of the 308's often neglected racing history within my collection of 1/18 Ferrari race cars.

Thanks, sure did. No matter how simple a project like this looks at the beginning, you end up spending countless hours on it. There is no such thing as a simple project, which is why I keep procrastenating some other ideas...

    Amazing job.

I was looking for something to critize you on. I was looking at the front hood not totally closing, but as it turned out, same thing on the real car!!

    Thanks!

Hehe, I was waiting for somebody to jump on that. Yes, that's done deliberately to mimick the original.

Well, I can give you some fodder for criticism: There is a reason I'm not showing the engine bay. The original car has a QV engine in there, yet the engine cover of the carbed engine. So I based this model on the carbed 308 as well. I was trying to get a 308 QV to swap the engines but they have become gold dust. Lesson to be learned: Buy the models while they're around.

Fantastic! I knew you've been working on this for some time, but hadn't seen any pics "along the way" (that I can recall). These are great! It really is a very, very good replica of the real thing! Nice work.

Thanks. True I didn't post any "work in progress" shots.

Speaking of: I have another work in progress. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87609
Hoping to wrap it up soon. Then it'll be time to work on my 1/1 scale "model" again. :)

It is kinda hard to get good shots of the interior, but I can tell you a little bit about rollcage: It is from a 360 Challenge (Mattel). I shortened the height a bit to fit the 308. I also left out the roof section because it gets very tight inside the 308 cabin and because you don't see that anyway from the outside. Also shortened the diagonal bar going across the back.

With the rollcage (which is too thick for scale, oh Mattel!) there isn't enough room anymore for the F40 racing seats so I had to go with the bucket style racing seats from the Stratos, but I preserved the Sabelt belts from the F40 seats. However I had to "reverse" them as they are originally in this grotesque "bloated" position like they are holding an invisible Bibendum in place.

I took the car completely apart to paint the interior in silver. Kyosho's "mousehair" interior soaked up the silver paint like a sponge. :) I used the F40's fuse panel to represent something like the nav aids for the copilot. I made it a bit thicker and changed its shape somewhat.

The Sheehan pictures of the interior vary quite a bit (e.g. 2 seats vs 1) so I took some liberties myself and placed the fire extinguisher where it fit best.

Obviously to be really accurate I would have had to strip the center console to its bare bones, but that would have gotten a bit ugly.

I hope that answers your questions, otherwise let me know.
