It appears mine has become a souvenir for someone at some point, do any of you know where to get one? I have the spinner style knock-offs. Thanks
As far as I know, Boxers that were equipped with 3- eared spinner style knockoffs did not have a wrench included in the tool kit, just a lead hammer. Cars with the octagon knockoff nuts came with a wrench to fit them.
honestly, the actual tool is nothing more than an objet d'art In terms of the useablility, it analagous to a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. Fo my TR - i had an octagonal nut made for me ( you can by them for the three ear spinner ) with a 3/4'' drive, mated to a 600 ft-lb torque wrench( available from snap on ) The actually works. the idea of using any kind of hammer next to an italian aluminum body pane is just plain stupid
Myhorse: Tell me more about the octagonal nut you had made. Any photos? Can you describe it more? Thnaks
Tifosiron, I am out of town at the moment, but here is a pict from hillengineering of the tool that is similar to what I have. When I return tommorrow I'll take pics of the whole set up Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes that looks like what would work on the octagonal nut, but what about the three ear spinner knock off? Even the lead hammer appears to be missing from my tool kit.
I have a similar "socket" but it has three cut-outs to allow it to fit over the knock-off. It was made for Lee Sanders, the previous owner so I unfortunately dont have a source for you, but I will get some pics of it up later today that you can take to a machine shop. It is used in the same configuration as above, an extension goes into the socket and the torque wrench goes into the extension to get you to the 185 ft lbs you need. DMAX
Try doing separate searches on just the single words "octagonal" and "3-eared" and "knock-off"-- should get you a reasonable amount of threads like these to review (and there's probably even more at the old FChat site): http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2839 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23427 -- although Napolis needs to repost the photo that was lost if possible please (and everyone should repost their missing photos whenever possible!) I haven't yet had the pleasure of living with a single-lug car, but, from the discussions that I've seen take place here, there's much more to a successful (and safe) relationship than just finding the wrench .
Good day, You may wish to check out this 3-eared knockoff removal tool on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-maserati-lamborghini-Knock-Off-Tool_W0QQitemZ4605456301QQcategoryZ43998QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem In my case, I decided to design my own removal socket(s) out of aluminum to protect the knockoff finish. The octagonal socket is being fabricated as we speak, and the 3-eared version should be ready in about a month or so. Attached are some renderings of the octagonal version. Tifosiron, here's my set up: the tool , the wrench and the device in action I usually use to bricks in front and behind the tire, my wife on the brake and turn in the right direction for the side turning the front wheels slightly and in the appropraite direction for lock and unlocking the bolt keeps the span of the wrench away from the fender Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I purchased a 3-wing socket for the Boxer from Mike Kumor (I believe this is the name and spelling). Several years ago he was selling them for $125. Perfect tool - 3/4 inch drive. If you search the archives his name has been discussed, and there is a thread with his telephone number. If you cannot find it, private e-mail me and I will search my receipts. Jim S. [email protected] P.S. I found the discussion - "Mike Kumor at Seaportmold can be reached at Tel# 419.243.1422. I have purchased one from him." http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2839
i got my wheel wrench from ricambi...it may have been a one off deal, but those guys at ricambi are the balls!!
Looks like most of the products available are for the octagonal nut, not the 3 ear spinner. I will contact Mike at Seaport Mold to see if he is still making them.
That was a quick reply. I heard from Mike Kumor at Seaport Mold, he does still make the tool for the three ear spinner, $150.
