As you 1989 328 owners know, the long kinky air-hose from the air filter to the intake is unobtanium -- and crappy, to boot! The foam crud disintegrates and makes a mess.

I have found, what I think will be an excellent "uprated" long hose for these cars. It has a temp range is -40 deg F to 225 deg F, quite smooth interior, and black UV resistant color. I need a volunteer with an '89 car who will take about 3 feet of this hose and try fitting it to their car. Taking digital pictures for my use on the website will be required.

Finally, I'll ask our guinea pig to not disclose our test results until everything is completed. For your time, I'll give you the hose (which will retail for $30 -- compared to FNA retail of about $380) and a free Hill Engineering GN02B-47C chrome gear knob. If you already have a gear knob, we'll pick something else of equal value.

    Any takers?

Yeah, that's exactly what it is. I'll leave some lint and one of Luca's socks in it.

DUDE?!?! Come on.... I'm not that bad. This is ducting specifically made for automobile applications.

Just playing, it happens to look exactly like the dryer hose I had to clear last weekend :)

It's all good... I knew you were kidding. In terms of a total non sequitur, it is important to clean dryer hoses. An old co-worker's house nearly burned down because of a clogged hose.

    Back to the 328...

I think I've lined up two test subjects. Watch this space for info!

    Hi Daniel

What was the result of this test? My '89 also has a cr*ppy looking duct with layers of tape holding things together....

    Thanks

Uh, give Daniel a few days to get the test product out and have his field testers report back. His reputation for speedy answers and service is going to make him look really slow on this one folks.

If it works. Will you cover it with the same plastic so it look OEM? I mean will the finished product look like the original for show purposes?

    Thanks Good luck.

Folks -- the 2 test guinea pigs have been shipped their duct hoses. Hang tight for a week or so, and we'll see how it works.

The results are in! The fit is quite good; the appearance is quite good. According to the manufacturer specs, the hose is very heat resistant (-40F to +225F). Obviously, that doesn't indicate how much insulation it might provide for the cold air as it passes through the hot engine compartment.

Only available in black; UV resistant.

So, without further delay, please see the attached pictures. I welcome your comments.

I would like to try and make a show quality replacement for my own car. If some one or multiple people are willing to let me have or purchase some of the old hoses after you replace it with this great looking hose please send me a direct. I know they are not in great condition but I would like to experiment.

    Thank you,
    Rich

I would say it is 'priced right'. As the 328 is a good market for people who are lookig for really factory original cars, I would also look for a replacment cover that looks like the factory stuff. If you couldprovide the hose and cover for around $150 I think you would have easy sales.

Great idea! A few years ago I needed a replacement because my hose was really beat up and the insulation was falling apart. Algar said that they don't make the part any more so they had to fabricate something from a Mondial to fit. This would have been perfect!

I ordered new air intake trunking from Ricambiamerica, and I have to say there service and help was great! I am in Australia and in got to me in a few days.
Any input if any one else has done this job would be great as to how you fixed trunking at car side intake end.

I managed to use the end cap at the air box end by pushing the trunking into the groove but at the side intake end I could only slide the trunking on without the end cap. Its so tight in there I could not even get a cable tie or hose clamp to fully secure it . It's on pretty tight so I don't think it will slide off, I have not drive tested it yet though (raining to much just now) but will get my mechanic to secure it if needed when in for next service as I am guessing on a hoist or wheel off would give better access to tightly secure. Attached some photo's for your thoughts interest.Tony
