For years I have heard about the header / manifold problems that 355 cars have. I am starting to think I hear something that sounds (ticking) like I might have a problem????????????

Does anybody have any pictures of the typical troubled area or have any good advise on exactly how you can tell if you have trouble brewing.

On one hand I'm pretty sure I'm hearing things - but just want to be sure...

    Thanks

The sound of the car will change significantly. If the holes are big enough you won't even want to drive it to the mechanic. It is more than just a ticking sound. With your windows up you will likely hear a pfftt sound at low RPM under load when the cylinder with the broken primary exhausts into the manifold.

Also you are likely to see small fiberglass strands all over the rear of your car.

try putting a hose to your eye and listening for a leak. move the hose from side to aide to compare . listen to the edges of the heat shields where the leaking gases would be escaping . forza

When mine went it left a metalic looking fiber in the engine compartment every time you drove it as well as the little tick. When the hole became worse the sound was horrible.

Thanks for all the comments - does anybody have pictures of the typical trouble area?

Is it near the flange that mates to the block or a split where the pipes come together towards to collector??????

Or maybe its diff every time????

Is it due to faulty welding / bad metal / the attachement point poor design.

How do the after market cos "improve" on the problem?

    Thanks

Don't know much about the OE ones. I had a customer order a left side manifold and 2 months later it cracked again. He was extremely frustrated and that's when I got the idea to start making some.

I can't speak for other companies but the main reasons:

-No heatshields with ceramic coating reduce the heat as opposed to trapping it.

    -We use a merged collector.

    - Our setup allows for the air to expand whereas the OE ones don't.

-Throw in the lifetime warranty and worst case scenario something does happen down the road, it will be replaced without a $2,500 fee.

i was always under the impression that trapping the heat in the exhaust was good for performance...and isn't there an issue with the heat from the exhaust affecting the alternator?

Not that we've experienced. To my knowledge not one car we've sold a set to has had alternator problems.
