As far as I know some early 166 Inters do have bent tube frame set-up with no cross member. Unfortunately I cannot confirm, too few opportunities to crawl under one. This is why I think "10S" might very well be an early road car frame. Best wishes, Kare

Another picture of the 001S(??) with the single seater body, shooted at Bari Gp on 28.9.1952: the car is the same of the one showed on the picture of Monte Pellegrino 1952 (see aft wings details and front grid). Assuming that in 1952 the car was used by Tramontana, even if officially owned by a figurehead, who was the driver at 1952 Bari Gp?
Look carefully. The car is set up with fenders, lights and yes a passangr seat and was never a single seater. just one man's opinion tongascrew
From http://www.racingsportscars.com - 1952 GP Bari S+1.1 There were five unknown Ferrari... one can be that one... The driver of those five Ferraris were: Sergio Mantovani Alberico Cacciari Giampiero Bianchetti Giovanni Bracco Piero Scotti source: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Bari-1952-09-28-6068.html?sort=Results MPC
I have the following Ferraris at Bari: 0016 Landi #69 1st/0194 tom cole #88 2nd/Castellotti 0166 3rd/ Bruno Sterzi unknown car/Clementi Biondetti unknown car/ Nocentini 0022 DNF/ 0044 Giletti 11th/0018 Simon 13th / Bracco 340A 14th/ 0111 Piotti. I am not saying this is correct and would be pleased to receive corrections and additions. just one man's opinion tongascrew

(edit - and Cacciari one too...) MPC
I came across these old photos from who knows when. Are they pertinant to the discussion here? I know nothing about them. If they are private property, please delete them. Bob Z. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bari was the last race of Bianchettis's old #014I, thereafter it was put aside. Dr. Alberico Cacciari afaik owned the 166 Export Vignale Spyder 0072E, and later the 166 MM 0272M. There is no guarantee that Martin's (racingsportscars.com) entry list is complete.
If you have lots and lots of time and want to see what traditional road racing was all about go thru the entire Forum Auto web site about the Targa Florio. This kind of racing will never be seen again. just one man's opinion tongascrew
I never trust at all the web... so I know the list can be wrong... but Mantovani car is still unknown? It's a wonderful forum... but now there are more then 1300 pages!! The first picture is Ferrari 125S at Piacenza '47, the third is 125S at Forlì '47, the second I don't know but it shouldn't be 001S... MPC
Sergio Mantovani was a young talent from Milano, but he was not wealthy. For 1953 he joined the Maserati works junior team. It would be strange if a driver from Milano borrows a Sicilan car to enter it at a race at Bari. However, everything is possible. But without further prove this is only a wild speculation.
The Sports Racing Prototypes listing for Bari 1952 is pretty good. I am missing race numbers for these two as well as others in the SRP. If you can help please do. I will say this about Martin's efforts he has come a long way in the last year. He gets high marks for effort. just one man's opinion tongascrew
I am trying to get some information from a local source but the coverage of 1952 GP seems to be poor.
For some people this renumbering is accepted as fact, but although there are some signs that it indeed took place I am still cautious. Main argument against such renumbering is the fact that Vallone knew quite well that he was buying an "old" car as he tested it already in the Vermicino-Rocco di Papa hillclimb in October 1948. And the other works Spyder Corsa, 012I, went to Bracco at about the same time without renumbering.
