You are of course right. Should have read "at the Mille Miglia in 49". 002C May be back in Europe next April at Villa d'Est and will be back at the historic Targa with her sister 0846 in June. Best Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Jim, familiar photo.... Wasn't here for a long time cause I dropped my login, however, have noticed your emotional reports about the Giro, great stuff indeed!
Hi I beleive someone said that they were from a club in South America from when 002C raced there. That shot was from last year. We are going to paint on the proper period shields. (SF) Best
What do you mean? That white circle with the dark horizontal bar? That's the logo of the Scuderia Besana. However, I never could find out how it looked in detail.
I think Jim is referring to this logo. It also appeared on other non-Besana cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Must be the Scuderia Besana logo; I don't think it is the YPF logo, as every YPF logo I have seen doesn't have the dark bar running through the middle. Anyone have a good photo of the Scuderia Besana logo??
OK. now I know what is meant. These ones: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This logo has to do with a crude oil company in Argentina ( Yacimientos Petroliferos F.) Color is white and blue . Should have been the sponsor of racing like the Carrera Panamericana over there.
YPF is in fact the former state-owned Argentine oil company, some years ago taken over by REPSOL. YPF was Peron's instrument to sponsor the Temporada races, as extremely high starting and price moneys had been offered to attract the European teams. This YPF sponsorship was traditional, in the beginning by order of Il Presidente, and later simply for commercial reasons. Even the Mercedes 450 SLC 5.0 of the 1978 South America Rallye carried exactly the same sticker as the 1948 Temporada entrants. The sticker was obligatory for all cars. The white circle with the dark bar and the "b" is the Besana logo. IMHO this would be the correct one for #002C, expecially when in 1949 configuration.
Ooops! You're drilling with your finger in an open wound...! Since years I'm trying to find out, but withour any success. I believe it was the logo of their company, which was a candy/sweets factory, so I checked various Besana companies in Italy on their history, but failed.
There is a Besana company in Italy involved with dried fruits and who still sponsor "engine powered" events and have been around since 1921. www.besanagroup.com But you probably know that one already....
Nice to see that of YPF, i have a friend in Argentina his name is Nestor Salerno, he have owned a lot of F cars and race in the 60`s, he race with a 250LM and a lot of cars more and is very nice to learn all that things that are posting, thanks I have to learn English too... sorry for my little english¡¡ Best Regards,
002C's rebuilt motor will be going on the dino soon. In the mean time we're cleaning up her panels and going over everything for the 100th Targa. I am trying to dig up a color photo or at least a color drawing so the Scuderia badge can be reproduced, through contacts in Italy...but unfortunately most of the people I knew that might know have passed on. I'll let you know when/if I find anything.. Stu
