I'm experiencing an issue in which my 02' 360 will not engage into either reverse or 1st (or any gear for that matter). Further, there is an open engine hood warning indicator (not the transmission idiot light in the right ajacent dial). I have opened and closed the hood several times to no avail. Also, when I set the alarm, there is the 1 chirp (armed), followed by an additional 4. Any thoughts?

Sure sounds like the switch to the hood is bad. The switch is telling the computer the hood is open, which is giving you all the problems. See if you can get to it, unplug the wires and short them together, so it reads that the hood is closed all the time. It may be that the switch contacts are just dirty (spray with electrical contact cleaner) or is out of adjustment...or you just may need a new one.

Thanks for the advise. Hmmm, shorting wires sounds a bit dangerous for this type of car (doing so might fry the car's microprocessor). However, most people who've responded to my question do agree that a malfunctioning switch is a highly probable cause. Now, the next trick...how does one get this car to move without having to resort to a tow-truck (for future reference if I'm traveling on a lone highway and this issue re-occurs).

I don't have a 360, but I would examine the switch to see how it works. Is it mechanical, or magnetic? See if you can adjust or repair it. Or just replace it. I certainly wouldn't keep driving it in this manner if it can potentially leave you stranded.

Call your dealer or Daniel at Ricambi for assistance.

Certainly, check the switches regarding the engine hood. However, and aside from that, If your foot is NOT on the brake, you will not engage any gear.
