Obviously revelling in his abound with a very big smile or stumb ling through his parts warehouses sorting out prospective contributions. Marcel has already stated these are North of 2.8 and if the Factory restores it then it only adds an air of provenance. I'd think the restoration would be over a mill Euros but really depends on that Engine. How you locate an engine that departed the car in the 1950's is pure Sherlock Holmes.
i think $2.8m is for a complete original car. i think that value will depend on how much of the original drivetrain can be tracked down and reunited with the frame. Regards, Art S.
The next one showed up yesterday...........Tom is on a roll!!!! All together now, put your hands together for the King of the Toasted Ponies. Insert dramatic pause here (could be a while)- Tom says he will bless us with pics sooner or later, remember he gets up at 5am and gets to bed after midnight (formula is input = results and results he has in spades).
Mr. Massini, Any chance you could tell us what continent this "new" find is located on?? the country would be even better!!! Curious, Patrick
Dam, I was offered a devin spyder in 1989 for 1200 bucks. It needed a TON of work, so i declined. I have to wonder if it had a ferrari chassis also. I always miss out on the good deals.
I love this stuff! It's way better than the DaVinci code "Holy Grail" bs. "Indiana" Shaughnessy is hot on the trail of another lost treasure.
The way it works is pretty easy: Current value = restored value - cost of restoration. For example, if the restored value is $2.5M and it costs $1M to restore, the current value of Tom's new ride would be $1.5M. -steve
Marcel, Actually, rumor has it that Tom has since found another GTE! Not as exciting as 202 or yours but still a V-12. Regards, Art S.
I doubt it will be $2.5mm if the engine isn't found. As said before, that's what an original one would go for, not necessarily a recreation to this extent. But it doesn't really matter what the final figures tally up to, the only people that would take on a task like this do it because they love it and not profit.
Ah, the ex-Ray Gettings 250 GTE 2+2. Gray with red interior. For sale in "Road & Track" October 1969. Sold new to Evain in France. Marcel Massini
Yep. Comin' to SoCal from South Carolina. The prices in the add are painful... T308 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm seriously considering building a time machine right now. That ad clip really depressed me. Too bad I couldn't use bills printed past 1969 to pay for a car cash if I went back in time.
Alright. We know that Tom S. is the most passionate horse lover of them all, but to even consider that his biggest joy (of many) in all of of this isn't the cash is absurd. As long as Tom puts a "correct" motor in the car (rumor is that he has one), it will be worth 95% of what it would with the original. And, this is not a "recreation" in any way, shape or form. Tom will be doing no more than if the car flipped off a cliff in a race in 1953. Careful with that word.
Don't want to hijack this wonderful thread but since we are talking barnfinds here and GTE's are mentioned as well here's one I discovered two months ago in Holland... 3167GT came from California in 1999 or 2000 and stayed in a Dutch warehouse for 6 years..... untouched..... First pic comes from barchetta.cc Car is now offered for sale by Paul Grant here in Brussels, http://www.vdvgrant.be/ Hope you like it.
