After playing with old Porsches for a long time, I finally made good and brought home #03120 - a '72 GT. I paid a visit to Steve Ahlgrim at Motorcar Gallery fully expecting to buy the other '72 GT (#03628) they had for sale which was cosmetically beautiful, drove well (had a few minor issues that needed to be sorted) and was priced accordingly. For comparison purposes, I took #03120 for a test drive, which looked a little tired (and priced accordingly)...but wow...drove brilliantly and won me over. I feel like I took the prom queen to the dance, but left with the girl sitting in the corner smoking and sneaking sips of punch spiked with rum. Fun>Beauty! Anyways, Steve was excellent to deal with and the car is a blast. Great engine, gearbox (even second is perfect when cold), brakes and steering. Of course, the paint only looks good from 10 feet, there are some rips and tears in the interior, she's missing her radio and there are big, cheesy 1980's era speakers in the door cards. This is an especially classy touch given the missing radio. At least there are no Ferrari badges stuck to her. Oh yeah...she also has almost 82,000 miles. I actually like this! What's the highest mileage Dino out there? I'm coming for you... I intend on driving the crap out of the Dino over the next couple of years without worrying about the occasional dirt, grim, bird poop or South Florida rain storm to keep her in the garage. The Dino is such a nice driving contrast to the 1970 911S and '58 Speedster she shares garage space with! Of course, I'll eventually get around to restoring her back to her original dark blue(?) and start all over again. In the meantime, I need to collect all the correct components I'm missing (seat belts, outside mirror, books, tools, etc) and have Matthias book coming to help me determine which is which. I'll also continue my 7(?) year history of lurking here to learn as much as possible but will also try to contribute just a bit more as well. Best! Dinos are like musical chairs!! First there were many and they changed hands often, then...the music stopped and now there are few. Seems like there is an awakening and a heightened interest in Dinos. Matthias's new book will only help feed the flame!! I think our Dinos are finding their final loving home where they will be appreciated for a long time. Congratulations on finding "your" Dino! Looking forward to hearing about your new "Dino" adventures!! Freeman
