It wouldn't bother me in the least if Ferrari never built another red car :)

I think the color combination is spectacular. A darker paint job would hide some of the wonderful details and lines. It is an unusual car and deserves a color that calls attention to its wonderful styling. Bravo for keeping it original and thank you Marcel for sharing its restoration with us.

Pininfarina's success was largely based on the fact that they were the only independent coachbuilder in whole of Italy - or the entire world - who were capable of mass producing steel bodies. Once they realized that this was a key card in the game, they simply killed off all competition.

I think Touring and Vignale were years ahead of Pininfarina's conservative designs. I think Vignale has built several of the most beautiful cars ever made and I love seeing pictures of this restoration as much as it hurts to look at old pictures from the 1980's when many of these cars were painted red and got their bumpers stripped.

    Best wishes, Kare

The little light in the trunk (and also in the passenger room) is absolutely genuine and correct and has never been replaced.
The fuel filler cap must not be black as you suggest but of the BAKELITE material and brown and it is a very rare and extremely expensive item (like gold or platinum!). The black ones are the cheap ones mainly used on the less exclusive cars. 0337 AL is a one-off specifically built for the Torino motor show 1954, to demonstrate the skills of Giovanni Michelotti and Alfredo Vignale.

Great period pics of Vignale and Michelotti. Indeed truth that every piece of Vignale is unique designed and made. Can you imagine the amount of work it takes to design and make every single car uniquely....Of course there is a family (look at the other brands of that time like the Vignale's Siata's and even american cars, you see the hand of Michelotti in all of them). Not all of them beautiful, but still impressive and only possible because Italy was at that time with the cheapest labour of craftsmen in Europe.
More period pics are more than welcome!

    ciao

Ah, the Suisse are so well organised...I rather see the Italian style with comments all over the place. But you probably are right Marcel.

    Hi Marcel,
when you read carefully I did NOT say the fuel cap is not original.I prefer that orange/braun one
the trunklamps came with he later 250GT -and 330GT- cars and have PLASTIC lenses.
as far as I know plastic was used later after 1955-1956.
    thats my information
so an acidglas is more likely.

    very nice thread.

    ciao
    Cornelis

Does it look like this car will be presented at the upcoming Cavallino Classic? I would love to see it in the "flesh"!!

The answer is no. Car is not finished yet. Engine and gearbox not yet in car, interior not yet in car, no exhaust system yet.
To see it in the flesh you may POSSIBLY have to travel to Elkhart Lake late July, in August to the US west coast and then again to Wisconsin end of August 2009. NOTHING has been decided yet. Car is in Switzerland.
