Tough decision I have a 488 due soon but because of business must choose either to keep my Ford GT or take the 488. What would you do.

    488. Never cared for the GT

But those are so different and not comparable.

We can't advise you since you are the one who knows what kind of experience each car gives you.

You are comparing apples and kale. Two totally different cars. One is appreciating and the other a standard Ferrari v8. I love my 488 but it's not fair to compare to a limited edition out of production car.

Drive the 488 for a week and you'll know if you should keep it or send it packing.

A gentleman I did some business with (who will remain unnamed) sent me a brief note comparing the Ford GT (05/06) and Ferrari 458. I believe it largely holds true for the 488 as well.

"The Ford GT and the Ferrari 458 Italia are both supercars, but they couldn't be more different. The GT is a retro design, while the Italia is futuristic. Brute force torque vs. high strung power, rumble vs scream, analog vs digital, American bravado vs European panache. And yet, all of that aside, they both stir our emotions and appeal to us equally".

I am a former Ford GT owner, now driving a 458 with my crosshairs on a 488. For a variety of personal reasons, the GT's time has come and gone and most now seem to be relegated to garage queen duty. Also consider that the GT will almost certainly continue to appreciate while the 488 will undoubtedly do the opposite.

With that said, YOLO so drive what you love!

Maybe too it depends on what you plan to use it for: the 488 could be used not only for weekends but also longer trips, whereby I don't think you'd want to do that with the GT (depreciation, comfort, reliability)

The only reason to buy the Ford is to save money in the long run. They designed this car to beat the 360 Modena. It may be fun to drive with it's manual box but it's not a modern high tech machine. In fact it's pretty low tech.

That could be good or bad depending on your point of view. But it makes them apples and oranges.

The Ford is now a collectible. The 488 will never be. Total a 488 and no one cries. Do it to the Ford and everyone will.

Keep the GT. Ferrari is by far in a way my favorite car, but the GT is rare. Your opportunity to buy a 488 will only get better with time. Same won't happen in regards to buying another GT.

I love my 458 Ferraris and my Ford GTs. I own both brands from new and have put over 24,000 miles on the GT and 21,000 mile combined on the 458s.
As said above they are 2 different cars and a decade apart now in time and technology.
I can tell you hands down the Ford GT is the way to go. That car is indestructible, can be worked on by most people (I even do some work myself on the car) and the shape is timeless. Yes they are going up in value. Even used they are worth more than the original purchase price. Do I think they have still room to go up? Yes. Will take some time. But in my mind that is a bonus. The key is to enjoy the car and what it can do and the pleasure it can bring in the way you want it to.
As for comfort while the Ferrari is more comfortable my WIFE and I have been on 10 hour drives with only a couple of pit stops for 4 day weekends with all the luggage and made it work. She had NO complaints!!
No matter where I go the Ford GT draws the attention and admiration of all, at least 2 to 1 over the Ferrari. I know I have had both side by side and seen the reactions.
Don't get me wrong the Ferrari is great, fantastic etc, vehicle but the Ford GT just seems to have something a little extra, different/ special over the Ferrari or any other car at this level.
Keep them both if you can but if forced to choose my choice is the Ford GT.

FGT would be my choice. If you change your mind later you can always get a 488 later, probably at a lower price.

I simply cannot get my legs and feet into the hole that leads to the pedals. And if you get to them, its impossible to keep from hitting more than one pedal at a time with a single foot. Horrible setup IMO but I know people love them. Not driven the 488 but think the pedals are at least standard issue comfort.

Buy the GT and enjoy it for a while then sell it for a profit and buy a 488 to enjoy it as well ;)

GT! You can always buy a 488 in the future after things improve. I still hold it against my wife that she was against the GT when I had one lined up for 150K.

I had a chance to buy a Ford GT at the bottom of the curve, but couldn't really afford it then so it didn't matter in the end..

Since the GT has appreciated so much, and will probably continue to, I might keep it and wait for a time when you could add a depreciated 488. But, I've sold appreciating cars for depriciating ones before, and couldn't be happier.

Are you looking for a driver or a collectible? Drive the 488 and you will be surprised at how nice it is. It is a generation newer than the GT. A second quicker in a 1/4 mile, which is a lot.
Has nicer suspension with all sorts of electronic aids and adjustability. Has a warranty and you don't have to worry about parts availability.
That said, the GT is a much cooler car and its value is only going up. They are two very different cars. Drive both and then make your decision.

I find in life do what makes you happy. To me, its all about which ones give you the experience you desire. It is a car and meant to be driven, do you enjoy the 488 more? or the GT? Choose which one gives you more butterflys when you drive it.

I offered our local dealer sticker price for one. White w/blue stripe and all options. They wanted $40K over. I declined and bought a 360 spider instead. They called 3 months later and offered me the car at sticker. I declined due to a lack of funds.

    I am an idiot.

This topic is making me sick. Last April I totaled my beautiful Ford GT, which I purchased new and owned 4 months shy of 10 years. I was lucky to have limped away with just a few injuries. The emotional scars run deep; very deep! By the Grace of God, no one else was injured. Had the same set of circumstances prevailed while I was driving my 458 with the Manettino set in the Wet, Sport or Race mode, the accident never would have happened. I will NEVER poo poo electronic nannies ever again. Make no mistake, the GT's lack of technological sophistication can cause the car to bite without any warning whatsoever. For a number of reasons, I could never replicate the GT ownership experience and therefore could never go back. I love my 458 and have a 488 in my crosshairs! Safe driving to all.
