in my ever ending to test drive any car that has the slightest sport car aspirations, i p car saleman friend let me take out a new boxster S..very nicely balanced car...great steering, shifting, handling, nice exhaust note, and good quickness for a 280hp car..also, very comfortable ...anyone here bought one and now do you like it...at 55k its much less expensive than a 911s cab, which is closer to 100k....

The Boxtser S is often referred to as the only Porsche you'll ever really need.

My brother traded in his 2004 S for a 2005 S which I thought was waste but he says the car is a big improvement and was worth it. After the couple of the times he has let me take it for a spin I do find it's far better than the 2001 S I had. But not close to the Luxury or fun of my Spyder.

The S looks like a really nice car. I still think it looks too much like a Carrera. I would like to drive on and see how it handles. I had no problem with the boxsters, S or not at the track.

Its nice and stuff, but why buy a Porsche when the guy two doors down from you owns the exact same one. Save up and buy a 911

actually, over the past 2 years, porsche has sold almost 2x as many 911variants than boxsters...i tend to see more 911 cars than boxster in my area on the road...in fact, 2 of the 6 houses on my court have 911 carreras!!!!

Where do you live? Here in Calgary it might be the exception. I see three or four Boxsters for every one 911 I see.

That's why I got a Maserati besides no others on my street not even another in my town. speaking of Porsche what is the Cayman S? I have not followed Porsche to closely lately but in the mail today I got an envelope stuffed with stuff about this car. Had a bunch of glossy cards and one had Alligators on it, Which it seems a Cayman is a type of but no picture of the car it's self, Say's it's two seat coup with Mid-Mounted 3.4 giving 295HP. Claims it's positioned between the Boxster and the 911. Kind of sounds interesting, Anybody got any pictures?

Okay I was lazy and after I posted that I did search online and found those couple of threads. Did not help much anyway as not sure if any of those pictures will be the actual car. Does seem Porsche is trying to build excitement and mystery by sending out that package with no Pictures of car. Doubt I would buy one no matter what it looks like as just to many Porsches on the road as is.

agreed, and i think porsche is making too many models, diluting the brand name....the suv was to getinto the lucrative suv market and it has been a critical and financial succ, ess, but the cayman? and the new 4door sedan? would hate to see porsche become like mercedes and offer a full line of all types of cars...look what that did to mercedes image and bottom line...

I just ordered a 2005 Boxster S. I traded my 2003 Maserati Spyder in to get it. I drove the new Boxster S, 2005 Carrera S and 2005 GT3 back to back and I felt that the boxster was the best of the three. It is not the fastest (0-60 in 5 seconds) but had the best balance and was the most comfortable to me. For the money, IMHO, there is nothing better out there at the moment. The Carrera is faster but doesn't brake or handle better (it also costs $40K to $50K more for the convertible)

I think its a great choice. BTW, a lot of people will tell you that for the same money , you should buy a 2005 C6 Corvette. I love Corvettes and have owned 3 of them but I would not get a 2005. The interior is too mundane and cheap looking to me. I also felt that the Boxster was a much more nimble car on the road.

    Just my two cents....

Well, Mercedes went "down-market", below the $35k level. I think that is dimmed the image, plus the poor quality they put out recently. I expect Cadillac to pull away the luxury market, as the company says they want to push the price levels alittle higher. Porsche is expanding it's model line, but the Boxster is still the cheapest level. Porsches are being sold at a higher volume, but they have four lines (GT, 911, Cayenne, and Boxster). I would love to see Porsche go for a model between the $300k-$400k GT and the 911, with a potential challenge to the Gallardo, 430, Aston's DB9 (the $150k car-can't remember the exact line name), and the Bentley GT. The volume is higher from Porsche, but it's still a "luxury and prestige" line, which I don't see from BMW and Mercedes. 55,000 for the Boxster is still a good buck. But I think the market will shake out in a few years, as Boomers realize they need money to retire and the dollar is not as strong as it use to be. I do agree, Porsche needs to limit the number of models, and not go crazy.

Porsche has announced that they'll be doing the full gamut of 911s right? Which means we'll likey see a 911 that fills in the GT3, the Turbo and the GT2 slots. Which fills in the slots in the 100k-200k price range.

However Porsche is facing the reality that no matter how good they are it is very difficult for a pure a sports Car company to survive at any size. None of its major competitors are independent anymore and I think that says a lot about Porsche's philosophy and determination to remain standing. If making a Sedan is what will continue to keep the 911 a Porsche Product and not face the same fate as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini then I support the creation of a Sedan. I just hope they can keep their Brand name a step above BMW and Mercedes.

I think a Porsche will still be, as along as they don't cross below the Boxster price tag. Porsche is the most profitable automaker in the world.

I really like my Boxster S, it a '00 model. It does everything right. For the street it has more than ample power and it handles better than anything else even close to the price range. On the track a very good driver in a Boxster S will run with generally anything short of a TT or GT3. They are extremely fast with only very minor suspension upgrades and racing tires. They are also the perfect daily driver.

But I am selling mine. I figured out its costing me $500 per month in depreciation in the 8 months I have owned it! I just cannot stomach that. Plus I want a racecar so I am trying to work a trade deal.

The Boxster S is incredible bang for the buck. Its amazing how few out there seem to realizer exactly how capable they are for a car that is a great daily driver. But there are more cars than car fanatics with thousands coming off lease at a time. Thus, they plummet in value.

The same thing happened with the 944S2 and 944 Turbos. Those cars were (are) extremely fast and good handling cars that were rock solid reliable. But today you can buy them for $8K all day long. The Boxster is headed the same way. I think a '00 Boxster S 5 years from now with 70k miles will be a $10K car. I will buy one then.
