    Anybody have experience with the early 2ks R230 series 500 sl, are these good cars, known faults etc.

    I drove a few years a SL 500 from 2002. Great car!! Only problem: Brakes about 180.000 km complete new. Thats expensive. I drove mine 5 years 105.000 km to 200.000 km. No bigger problems but much fun :cool::D.

    My dad had a USA 2003 R230 which had tons of issues relating to the roof and leaks

    I would aim to buy a later/latest version of the car, not the first year or two of the body style

    I would not want to own that car unless I had a very good Benz independent mechanic to help me out

    The car did have ABC

    And it worked ok, that seems to be the biggest fear, followed by brakes and tops then the AT.

    The blurb seems to be if theyre maintained theyre good.

    As i said i had only one time a problem. The hole ABC-Unit was changed. This seems to be normal around 180.000 km. If i remember right i paid around € 4.000,-- for all. No more problems with my car. And i loved the V8-sound :cool:.
