The car is a 2005 Spyder. The rear of the top raises as it should to allow the tonneau cover to open, but that’s where the action stops. The dealer (for $467) advised that the right side strut, PN 66115800, is faulty. The dealer also advised that they are unable to obtain the part. I’ve seen some hilariously-priced used parts online but not a new one. Does anyone have a line on this part? Thank you for any input.
Thanks EastMemphis. I've been trying to find discussions on this topic but have come up short thus far. Have you had this done or know do you know anyone who has?
I had a similar Type problem on my 03 spyder, being an old car guy I immediately started looking into mechanical fixes, tearing things apart to get to various components all to no avail. Frustrated, Then I was reading somewhere about the possibility that the top was out of cycle. Now I’m reciting this from a 8 year old memory, but the fix turned out to be disconnecting the battery for a period of time. then reconnecting, turning the key to MARS? (on position) but not starting the car. Leaving it there for a period of time (5 To 10 minutes if memory serves me correctly). I don’t remember if I turned it back to off or started it directly from there, the end result was once the car was started again the top function as it should in full cycle. As an added bonus, i was also having an intermittent radio problem when the radio would shut off while driving. Checking connections, all was fine so I just figured I need a new radio. Turned out apparently the radio was out of cycle as well. After disconnecting the battery the radio worked fine.
italiancars - Thank you for the insight. It's worth a shot! staatsof - No, I have not. I already had an account here and noticed the Maserati sub-forum so figured I'd give it try. I'll head over there next if I can't make heads or tails of it here.
Here's where you get parts https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/maserati/4200-spyder-2002/bodywork-lighting/capote-hydraulic-system-20428 I had a problem of hydraulic line failure but you can buy couplings that repair the lines.
@italiancars - Unfortunately the procedure you described did not do the trick. Oh well. @Tony H - After leading me to believe they had the part, and letting me order it, Euro Spares promptly cancelled my order because they can't get it. Maserati North America was kind enough to provide several contacts to try. We'll see what happens. @EastMemphis - Any idea who refurbishes these bits? Thanks again
