I went to Tyler, Texas last week and visited with Doug the owner of #05478. He's owned the car since 2006 and after some discussion it was decided to do a complete restoration going back to it's original color of Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato with beige interior Ochre carpeting and campagnolo wheels. There were only 51 in that color. It was delivered to my shop on Tuesday and Doug the owner came down to work a few days taking it apart. Now for you haters all the USA lighting is coming off including side and rear reflectors and front indicator lights. New front indicator opening will require metal work to match Euro style. The motor has been rebuilt a few years ago and has 55 miles on the rebuild. Also the Daytona seats will be one color and not contrasting black stripes. We also will be deleting the smog equipment and a few other minor changes. It's a stunning color combination and another fun project.

That's going to be beautiful. Just don't make it so nice that he stops driving it...

Getting rid of the DOT markers on the body and the SMOG strangulation on the motor is a fantastic idea. The lines of the body are much purer and the motor is much more powerful (20hp!) on the non EPA'ed Euro-spec cars...

Finally, something we can look forward to on a regular basis in the Dino section.

Jon, you have to promise us to post multiple and frequent updates. I think this is gonna be an awesome color to see this Dino go back to.

General question, I love Rosso Cordoba however I’ve not seen it in person and am wondering if it has always been a Metallizzato?

Yes, for the Dino always metallic - to the best of my knowledge.
I know of at least one Dino in the US that had been painted in a non-metallic version of that color - but that was simply beacause the owner and/or the paint shop did not know it was supposed to be metallic.
Easy to be fooled, because the metallic grain is so fine that it appears non-metallic on an overcast day. Then it looks like an oxblood color. Understated and elegant in my opinion. But freshly polished and in bright sunshine, it will sparkle and take on a different, more striking, more spectacular look.

It is one of my favorite colors for the Dino.

    Waverider 1,
I do not mean to be nit-picking on your post, but I have to point out that the 20 hp loss for US Dinos is not correct. That erroneous information has been printed and published in so many places that you can certainly be forgiven for quoting it here.

A US Dino with all the emission control equipment engaged and active, had several annoying characteristics: Poor throttle response from idle (due to retarded ignition) and some popping sounds from the air injection into the exhaust. The air injection also raised the temperatures in the engine compartment to almost dangerous levels. The emission controls also confounded the mechanics with an array of hoses, valves and canisters in the engine compartment, which made them more difficult to work on. All those things were true. Yes, yes and yes.
But serious loss of power compared to the Euro version? No!
In fact, a US Dino put out almost exactly the same 195 horsepowers as a Euro Dino.

The reason for that was that was that Ferrari engineers designed the air pump to disconnect at 4200 rpm, just where the Dino starts making serious power. And, of course, once past the idle position, the ignition timing was advanced normally. Slightly different advance curve, yes, but with final advance slightly more than the Euro curve. So, at full power, no difference.

The story about how all the motoring experts could get it so wrong and write about the imaginary lost 20 hp for the US version, does not belong in this thread, I think. Should be the subject for another thread.

The owner of the Dino in this thread will no doubt be delighted by the response of a freshly rebuilt engine, when Jon is done with his car. He will probably also be delighted with getting rid of the unnecessary weight and complexity of emissions hardware, and happy to get a cleaner looking engine compartment, etc. All that is good and well. But he is unlikely to recover any lost 20 hp - because they were never lost in the first place.

In addition to Isuk’s pictures of a GTS, here are a few of my own previous GT in Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato. It is surprising how different that color can look, depending on the light conditions.

This is how Rosso Cordoba looks like most of the time - to me at least. Does not even look metallic at all.

Very different, isn’t it? The metallic finish is noticeable here.
It looks like the paint shop Jon uses has a good grip on just the right degree of metallic finish, judging from the paint sample.

This will be an interesting thread with a fantastic looking Dino in the end, I am sure.

I love this color! My previous ride was close to this and definitely suites a car with curves.
