msrp $180k I was quoted $165k out the door without me haggling. Anyone have any first hand info of what they are selling for? Evolution Motorsports has an ECM upgrade that adds 200 ftlb torque and 125hp at the wheels:D:D

I thought the 700+ horsepower it currently makes was ultimately limited by the transmission or differential. From the beginning M-B has said that more power was available from the engine, but the rest of the drivetrain couldn't handle it.

The tranny governs the car to 185mph, I think from the factory it is governed to 155mph or 165mph by ecm but that is removed with the reprogram....

Exactly, the car is torque limited to 1000nm because of transmission longeivity concerns.

If you enhance the engine and encounter driveline troubles better open your wallet as the warranty is toast.

Everything said here about the transmission is correct....(I have 8 years MB experience)......AMG was easily able to produce 1,000 pound feet of torque in development but the transmission couldn't handle it and redevlopment wasn't economically feasible given the small number of these cars.

And....FWIW.....I just got off the phone with the MB field service tech rep who confirmed for me that if you flash the ECU or perform any modifications in any way to the computers, the various ECU's and black boxes etc, will not communicate with the service computers and they'll find out immediately.......and as you'll have to go in for something unrelated to engine/transmission trouble eventually, and since these cars are so integrally wired for almost everything nowadays.....they'll get you. If the tuner says they've found a way around it.....don't believe them.

Don't get me wrong.....I love modifications....I'm just warning you of the ramifications. If you can afford it.....and the risks involved......it doesn't matter then......

As to prices......I don't live in the USA......so I can't help you out.

    Enjoy regardless.

Well, if it's anything like the flashes I can get on my Cobra, then you can put the factory tune back in the computer before you take it in to the dealer.

Apparently that is not the case here so he said.....and I believe him as I have a Porche Cayenne Turbo owner who found out the hard way too......PAG has figured it out also......I guess ultimately the question is....for how long until the tuners crack it again....

why modify anyway? that chassis is nowhere near capable of using the stock power without traction control and stability programs... none of the current series production Benzes can

I guess there is always bragging rights, if you must....

Re: the limiter-- the standard limit is 155, while AMG can bump it up to 188. I'm sure Brabus or Kleenman can fully delimit it, but if you blow the hand-built twin turbo v12, you might as well push the rest of the car off a cliff

I spoke with a friend of mine who's a GM at MB. He says the cars sticker from $172k - $180k depending on options. He says the cars are not hard to find and not flying out the door. He currently has 2 in stock. One with a $172k sticker and the other with a $175 sticker. His invoice on the $175k car is about $164. He would let the car go close to invoice. As for the $180k car you saw, $165k would probably be below invoice or right around that area. Maybe your dealer is dipping into his holdback a little? I sometimes make my guy go into his holdback, so it's possible.

    Good Luck,

    Jon

The EVO reprogram is done by Kleeman...I thought the $165k price was good but I needed re-assurance from you guys.

The $165k price is definitely good based on the $180k sticker.

$165k is a bargain especially when the MSRP on the MBUSA website is $169k and some change. Local dealerships here have been pricing in the mid 70s, on par with DuPont Registry adverts as well. Ah the wizards at AMG and their German uber-sedans...gotta love it!

i have driven a s55 extensively and i am not crazy about the chassis...mb will be upgrading the s class chassis soon and its none to soon...i really dont see a logical reason for buying a s65 in the states , with our very low speed limits....o to jail in 4 seconds flat...also, the amg s class cars depreciate like rocks....wait a year and two and pick one up for 40% off....

I can't say on the S65, but I was out of town a few months ago and decided to stop in to the local MB dealer(I don't have a local dealer). He had a CL65 comming in a few days later and said I could probally get it for around $220k and menitioned the dealership had already turned down an offer for $200k on it. Just thought I'd throw in what I know.

I'm with J - I see them declining. It's just the SL55 syndrome with less hype and a slightly longer depreciation curve.

I'm amazed at how MB can justify some of its AMG line at over 100% premium over the base model.

    S class- 70k, AMG S65- 170k
    CL class- 80k, AMG CL65- 170k
    SL class- 85k, AMG SL65- 170k

That is a HUGE premium to pay for just a bigger motor.

Up to me, I get the base model (plenty quick already) and buy a used 355 with leftover change. But then the guys who can afford the AMG doesn't give a hoot anyways.

actual, in the us, a 500s is closer to 90k, a 430s is at 75k..but a good point made....i would buy a used 500s for 50k,with a 120k left over for a real sports car

What are the colors and options on the $180k S65? Does the $165k include tax, tag, title and fees?

All manufacturers do this. Why is a Murcie $100k+ more than a Gallardo? Why is a 575M $70k more than a 360?

Not a logical comparison. A murcie has 2 more cylinders, 80bhp more, and is considered a different car. PLus it came out long before the gayardo. A 575 is a radically different car from a 360.

The x65 models are virtually identical to the 55s, save the bump in hp. Same motor, etc.
