I picked up this car today from the previous owners in Oakland, Ca. They have owned this car since 1980 and in that time drove it about 60,000 miles. The car is original paint, upholstery and carpet. Included were tools, books and all the smog equipment. According to the warranty book it was delivered with Goodyear tires and bought new in Berkely, Ca. It is now in my shop awaiting instructions from the new owner. I believe we are doing a nuts and bolts rotisserie restoration. I had to get another rotisserie as the one I have will be in use for several more months on Rob's #08450. I'm looking forward to getting started on another!

Today I started taking apart 06450 for the first time. It's really nice working on an original car with all the nuts and bolts and wiring just how it came from the factory. I have 3 days to try and get this thing stripped and the motor out and on a rotisserie. Not sure if I'll make the deadline before I have hand surgery next Friday. Pretty much need both hands for what I do. The body number is visible in a number of places, a gas receipt from 15 years ago was under the seat. The seats are the only thing that has been redone 10 years ago but do not match the rest of the tan leather. The owner does want a color change and I'm sending him a DINO COMPENDIUM to pick a color.

Looking forward to seeing this one transformed, but just a little bummed the color will be changed.

The Bronze is unique and, IMO, gorgeous on the Dino...

I think it's a cool color also, very 70's looking. It also shows the lines well and you don't see many. I thought I might get it all stripped today but didn't quite make it. I still have the fiberglass except for the rear inner panels which are out. I will finish Monday and Tuesday it gets picked up to go to the media blaster. They should have it for about a week and then it goes for body and paint. It takes about 100 hours to take a Dino apart completely.

My car came from Griswold new in 1976. I still keep very close contact with one of their former head mechanics during the 70s. I'm sure he'll know the car if you ever have any question about prior maintenance. PM me and I can get you in touch with him. Great find and thanks for posting!

very curious to see the state when its blasted..

This one doesn't look to bad, sorry to say but if it's only the paint... I would have kept it as is.. Its only original once.
The weathered old paint wouldn't bother me at all!
There are less and less unrestored cars around.

Changing the color would be a shame.. keep it original, it captures the spirit of the 70's.

You guys are doing fantastic cars!!

While I would always hope it is just the paint, it has been well documented that Dinos are rust buckets with traps, pockets and crannies to breed rust.

This Dino is in the right hands

For that reason alone "originality" is highly overated.

It is not, as the owner wants it how it came from the factory except color.

    Jon,

Looks to be all original paint and black lower. Have you taken templates off the black lower? Looks like a perfect waterline.

Is that a pile of scale on the ground resulting from the pressure washing?

It's just foam from the back of the fiberglass facing the engine.

Off to be media blasted at Hot Rods and Custom Stuff in Escondido, Ca. Hopefully will be blasted and primed with metal etching primer then off for paint and body next week. It been 10 days since I started. All the chrome is at the plater. The interior has already been started, radiator is at the radiator shop being pressure tested, tires have been dismounted and wheels are at the powder coater along with 90% of the parts that will be powder coated. The engine was delivered to Cavallo Motorsports today for Christain to work his magic, shocks have been sent out for rebuild, all the cad and zinc plating will be taken to LA this week and most all of the parts needed for rebuild have been ordered. I strar suspension rebuild tomorrow.

Paint stripping is like Let's Make A Deal - you don't really know whether you get Door #1, a fairly clean body underneath, or Door #2, a bondo nightmare requiring tons of bodywork. Hope you get Door #1 :)

As it was original paint and no evidence of rust or any accident I could see while taking it apart I expect Zero issues. On my way there now so I will see!
