Does anyone have any detailed info on chassis 0686 when it was fitted with a Chevrolet engine and raced by Anson Johnson at Nassau in the mid-1960's? If there are photos, how different did the car look with the engine swap? How easy ro hard were such conversions?

I briefly raced a 2 liter Mondial in the middle 60's - Ex Mexican Road Race Castellotti car with oil cooler tubes brazed into the hood.

Not very fast so we put in a Chevy small block and 4 speed.

No idea of the VIN or where the car went.

Should've kept it in original condition !!

For 4 cyl cars transaxle cars, the swap was not too hard. The rear engine mounts had to be removed/ relocated and the bellhousing could be fitted to the back of the Chevy with an adapter plate. The drive shaft angle changed a little bit and exhaust piping had to be accomodated on the righthand side of the car, so some additional bodging generally had to be done.

Like many other 4-cylinder, 0570 was converted to V8 (around 1959) but it never was a 2 litre before and, being of 1955, couldn't be at the Carrera, the latest being 1954.

I was told it was Castellotti and the Mexican Road Race; Never checked or verified of course. And I might have misremebered from 40 + years ago. The only thing certain was that it had oil cooler tubes brazed into the hood and was once owned by Bob Degraw of Corning (?) or Cortland NY.
