Thinking about a convertable for this year. Looking into the SLK55 with the 030 Performance Package.

My Dealer Service Tech. says that there are a few tweeks here and there they can do in house to squeeze more power out. ( High flow filters, High flow fuel pump, open Exhaust resonator, in house ECU tweek..ect.)

If they would only ditch the old 5 liter V8 and drop in the new 6.3 V8.....WOW it would be a barn burner. I wonder how much more if any the new 6.3 weighs compared to the current 5 v8 now?

Anyway, does anyone have any input as to the performance and handleing charecteristics of the car? They dont have one on the lot...but we have located one.

Looks to be a fun and powerful vert. Any problems or issues from any owners?

    Thanks Guys! SM

I've driven a few within the last month, the SLK55 w/o the P030 option.

The car seems to be very well built, and the interior layed out nicely, well accept for the stupid placement of the CD unit in the glovebox and cupholders above the center console. That airscarf option is kinda cool if you still want top-down on a real cold day.

The engine is outstanding......I mean outstanding. Just listening to the output from it, top up or down is enought to sway you towards the car. The 7speed trans w/paddle shift is great. (This car will clean house on most stuff on the road, I mean its got a 4.x 0-60 rating, and I believe it..........trust me this car scoots along just fine w/o any mods). So the overall drivetrain is outstanding! The car though does downshift when slowing down, and you do feel it. The trans has (3) modes......... One is a "C" mode where it starts in 2nd and uses an alternate reverse gear for in-town if you choose.

Now.......The handling is so-so, not bad, but not sure its up to other sports cars. (the G rating is .89 I think). It seemed ok (but then I also drove a Cayman-S the same day which kinda tanted my opinion......I'm not sure what you'd have to be in to handle like the CaymanS). I didn't get a good feedback from the road, but again, it depends on what you are looking for. The SLK55 seemed to track nicely, not rough at all on the roads, and, has "unique" going for it. (And I'm not sure there is any car out there that gives you everything).

I was also wondering about the P030 package, because if it does get the car to be a bit tighter I might (myself) sway towards one, and, I'm not ruling out a regular one either....... I'm also wondering if the tire choice on the car could be better.........like get some PS2's on it, and that would make a nice difference. The 3rd ride I took the tires on the SLK55
fronts looked a bit low, and that may have been what it was.
