A quickpaint job took 4 years. It all started in December 2006 when I started with a friend stripping the car, that was a weeks work, then I brought the car to a welder who did his work in a day or two, so far all good. Then it started all, when an other friend asked or his friend couldn't do the painting at a special rate in his lost hours, end of June 2008 the car the car was ready, he hadn't had so many lost hours anymore. Since my friend who helped to strip the car and was going to help to put it together again didn't have much spare time anymore in his life, we only worked once in a while for a hour or 2 at the most on the car, it was still (see photo) in this shape 2 months ago, luckily I found somebody who was going to help me out with this neverending story. Hopefully it will be on the road by next weekend. But still, the good thing is that we have a nice and correct Dino. only two things, 1. Ferrari says the car was delivered new in Giallo Fly 20-Y-490, but we have found no evidence of that at all, I find white on some places but no yellow. 2. One of the old owners had the dash recovered with alcantara which looks good but is not the correct material, but luckily Henk van Lith is getting the original material again, I have seen a sample of it, and it looks the worries are over, and I can have that solved as well. So we can use the dino very soon for thing where it is built for. PS Is there a list of the buildnumbers of Dino's mine is 2468 which is found on all kind of places. Hello Tony, very interesting.. It´s very much possible your original colour was Bianco Polo Park 20-W-152 and not Nuovo Giallo Fly 20-Y-490 confirmed by Ferrari. The records of Ferrari aren`t 100% correct. Wrong colour confirmation appear from time to time... Body no. 2468 means, that your GTS was the 2468th E-series Dino build. Regards Matthias
Hi Matthias, thanks, I am trying to contact the daughter of the first owner, maybe she knows what colour the car was, I would prefer white because then I will bring it back to its original colour. first owner was Mr Sgarbi from Lecco near Milano, first registration is CO 392388.
Huh? Really You want to start all over again? The car is just ready! Look forward to see the car someday in person!
I'm only used to the same engine in front of me... Would like to experience the trill of the same engine behind me sometime!
Thank you Matthias, I mailed Ferrari today with the details of my car and asked them to check again in their files and this was the prompt reply from them. Dear MR Van der Velden I Confirm that your car was: Exterior : Bianco polo Park 20w 152 Salchi Intirior :Black Thanks to you and the classiche department the mistake has been solved.
