    Hi everyone,

I was just reading the recent post by @omgjon on #05478 Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato. I just purchased similar spec 246 GTS #07810.

By way of introduction to the group, here is my story. In the early/mid-70’s my father and I visited Sprung Buggy Works in Kansas City – an independent repair shop / dealership dealing in British and Italian sports cars. As a very young car enthusiast I would drag him there from time to time to look at all the great cars. I remember seeing a Miura, a 275GTS, Ferrari V-12’s on engine stands being rebuilt, and much more. Great stuff. But on this occasion I saw a Dino for the first time – I vividly recall a dark maroon / plum color that shifted in the light – a color I now know to be Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato – and it was stunning. The color set beautifully against the Cromodora wheels and their yellow center caps, and the removable top was off to reveal a perfectly contrasting beige interior. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen, and I couldn’t believe humans could produce such a thing. It left an outsized impression which never faded. I’ve seen several Dino’s since then, but never another that color in person until recently. Apparently, only 51 Dino's left the factory in Rosso Cordoba.

Like many of us, I wasn’t from a wealthy family, and I saw values rise, fall, and rise again – always hoping that I’d catch up to them someday – and perhaps even track down the car I saw as a boy. I ended up making my living in the auto industry, had some success, and recently decided to pursue that car, or at least a comparable one. While I never found the car I saw as a boy, I was fortunate enough to find a beautiful one with the same spec and a great ownership history - #07810. I was even able to make friends with the original owning family, who have been very gracious and are excited to see it again.

So I was also thrilled to see the other Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato cars in @omgjon's post, and that @omgjon is taking #05478 back to Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato. I look forward to seeing the finished product someday, and kudo’s to owner Doug for making the call! And, BTW, your paint out sample looks great! Interestingly, #07810 also lost its side markers and has single color Daytona seats, as you intend with #05478. The purist in me struggles with this a bit, but it looks great – and I don’t think Ferrari ever wanted to put those side markers on anyway!

I look forward to monitoring the progress on #05478 and can’t help but wonder if it might even be the car I saw as a boy.

To the Ferrari Chat community, would be great to hear any other stories / history on Sprung Buggy Works, Rosso Cordoba Metallizzato Dino’s or even the car I saw.

Still working on getting 07810 back here from Germany Image Unavailable, Please Login but hope to go for a drive soon!

    Best Regards, Eric

Beautiful car, you're a lucky guy. That color combination is stunning. We are still in the disassembly stage with Dougs. If you could it would be nice to see a few more photos and especially your seats. So you found it in Germany and are in the process of shipping it home. Where is home?

Thanks @omgjon, @tx246, and @dinogts. I appreciate the warm welcome. The car is a US model, specially ordered in this color and owned by one family from new until 2012. From there it was sold to another US owner, then went to Nicholas Todt (Jean Todt’s son) in the UK, then to a German collector where it is now. I found it thru Eberhard Thiesen in Hamburg (great people to deal with BTW). I posted a couple pictures below – including some interior shots and one with Matthias Bartz who was kind enough to drive up to his hometown (Hamburg) to help me look over the car. It was an honor and pleasure to meet Matthias and he was fantastic – knowledgeable and friendly and humorous! So, it's just been a great experience all around so far! I’m in the process of shipping it back to my home in Fairfax, VA. Lastly, I think this color is hard to capture in photos - it looks different in different lighting conditions, with different cameras, and even with the same camera from photo to photo. @omgjon, I'm happy to send you some hi-res pictures if you'd like and share any other notes and pertinent info that you might find useful. I love the daytona seats without the black stripes. It's exactly what I suggested to Doug the owner and he readily agreed. My wife is from Falls Church, Va and we go back to see some of her siblings. Next time not only the siblings but you and your Dino!!

I agree - it's a great look! As I understand from Matthias Bartz, this is not period correct for Dino, but later Ferrari's had this option, so can't be all bad! Falls Church is right down the road, LMK when you're in town and we'll go for a drive.
