For the Le Mans race in 1967, #0844 was entered by the N.A.R.T. Drivers were Pedro RODRIGUEZ and Giancarlo BAGHETTI. There are threads for #0846, #0848, #0850 and #0854... Why not another one for #0844? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Correction, Francis .... I believe the photo you have just posted is from the Le Mans Test Days in April 1967. Note the white #25's on black roundels. For the actual 24-Hour race, the car ran with black #25's on white roundels / applied directly to the white bodywork. Image Unavailable, Please Login
From the small photo below, #0844 can be seen getting away at the start of the Le Mans 24 Hours - well ahead of the work's P4's and the other customer team 412P's: Image Unavailable, Please Login
There is this other thread about #0844's accident at Le Mans, back in July this year: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158161 .... but, sadly, no-one seems to have updated it. If I get time, early in the new year, I'll drive up to Tim Samways' Sporting & Historic Cars premises, armed with camera. Maybe I'll get lucky, same as I did, the last time I visited them, way back in 2001 - by just dropping in on a 'chance' visit. By the way, Francis - I ran a quick search, and found this earlier #0844 thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84608
#0844 is run for owner Harry Leventis by Tim Samways' Sporting and Historic Cars. These are their two websites: http://www.sportingandhistoriccarengineers.co.uk/indexold.htm (old one) .... and their new website (under construction): http://www.timsamways.co.uk/ But I don't expect they'll be putting any photos of #0844's accident repairs on there - at least not until she's been re-fettled.
Thanks Boudewijn... Another one from Le Mans with Lorenzo Bandini before the race. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very neat shots of the cars being serviced prior to the race... Interesting to see the rather austere pre race service environment in those days, not much in terms of pit amenities during trials and qualifying. Looks like it was expected that the car would run for 24 hours with only the service that could be performed in the pits along side the track. Today we have garage areas where the car can be brought in and major service performed with all of the tools and capabilities of the race shop, and to me that takes a lot out of it. After all, it is a 24hr race, not a series of 4 hour sprints where you can bring in the car and do major maintenance on it and then return to the fray .
The Mallory Park circuit has a regular test session on Wednesday mornings with no noise restrictions (unlike most) where some tasty historic machinery gets a run, usually not long before an event: http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=127667&view=findpost&p=4449142 Paul M
