What is your preferred source for the paper air duct hose connected to the Smiths (or SPAL) motors?
Jon- is this the wiring harness that u made? I bought one from Superformance that i am planning to install..any tips?
More wiring today, very time consuming when replacing a lot of the connectors and the vinyl sheathing. Ralph from Auto's International came over today and installed the Dino vinyl around the back windscreen as I'm ready for glass in a day or two. The front is pretty much finished with the grill and bumpers now on. yes, looking very nice indeed. The a/c works surpisingly well in all these cars when correct R12 or ES12 is used and all the parts are freshened up.
Day 9 of reassembly, moving along with glass, interior pieces, heat shields, fuel tanks, fiberglass and more. Jon, can I ask what paint product and color you use for the hammertone finish? Is it 'Hammerite' in grey? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The blow by canister I powder coated hammer tone. For the fan motors I use the stuff right from Home Depot!
It doesn't seem like I got much done today, but I started the doors! Always a project that takes much longer than what you would think. Everytime I've done these it's been like 3 days to get everything working right. Im interested where you can get the black AC hoses with fabric wrapped ? Im restoring a Mercedes and need the same stuff. Thank you.
I originally had them made with fabric wrapped hoses. The rubber was the same as the original hoses. Currently the modern hoses are lined on the inside and only rubber, no cloth wrapped. I was later told the cloth wrapped hoses could leak because they do not have the liner although the originals were not lined. So on an abundance of caution I replaced them with the modern hoses. So sad as the others looked so much better and I could use the original fittings.
All interior work today with the Dino vinyl sills going in, the carpeting getting fit and ready for binding and the same with the trunk. All the interior work that needs glued in will be finished tomorrow and Saturday. I did manage to get the electric motors in for the windows and running smoothly. My plan is to finish up the interior and doors and some details, put the suspension on and then the engine can go in. Putting doors together today and as usual eating up a lot of time. Never assume the locks work before installing them! I had put the key in several times and all seemed fine until I installed them and found the cylinder didn't turn on either one. Out they came and a trip to the locksmith, luckily the key just needed trimmed a bit so it would go into the lock a few thousands more. After the trim, and all of $10 they worked fine and I reinstalled them for the second time. Obviously the previous owner could not lock his car. More interior today, Ralph from Auto's international came over today and finished the carpet. It's very fun and satisfying watching and participating in #08450 return to it's original exterior color and interior. The rust carpeting came from HVL in the Netherlands. You wouldn't think the dash would take all day to put in, but by the time I hooked everything up and got all the vent/heater cables adjusted the day was gone. If any of you are doing your dash I would strongly recommend attaching the cables to the dash pulls before installing the dash, it makes things way easier than being a contortionist trying to attach the cables after the dash is in. There is a NOS set of those sun shade suction cups on Ebay right now for the low, low price of only $350 if you want to put in a "fresh" set!
I can attest to the "contortionist" comment re the slide pulls on the dash. It is almost impossible (ok it is impossible) to connect the cables once the dash is in. It looks great..inspirational for the rest of us! Thanks
Can someone explain for what configuration, the front boot lid support bracket appears on the right (LHD passenger side) vs the left side? I've always noticed it on the left (LHD driver side). refer to post #247 photos 3 and 10
