It started as a cosmetic restoration but there was no way I could leave years of grime under a new paint job. Soooo I finally stopped when there was nothing left to take off the car. Off to the media blaster for a few days then it's the maestros turn Steve Kouracos for body work, surfacing and what will be a stunning Blue Dino Metallizzato paint job. In the the meantime I'm left with a bunch of filthy parts to clean up!!

Great work and many thanks for posting so many detailed photos. The body number shots are great!!!

Could you post a good shot of the engine type and sequential number as well as the gearbox number. I am trying to keep a good data base of these for future purchasing reference as I have bought more than my fair share that did not have their original engines or gearboxes.

I have other samples from other Dinos if any ever needs any.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Moving along with the interior. All the black being covered in Dino Vinyl and dash in Henk's Mousehair. Parts are coming back from powder coat, fiberglass was lightly blasted to get rid off the first layer of gunk. The fiberglass will get a new gel coat. All the suspension has been taken apart to get new bushings, bearings and parts cad plated.

Today I went to LA to pick up all the parts I left last week to be plated either yellow cad, clear cad or black zinc. I love laying it all out, it looks like jewelry. I think it makes such a difference to go the extra step and replate all the parts. The plating isn't that expensive, it's the time it takes to take everything apart. I also installed all the new bushings on the freshly powder coated A arms. All the suspension will be new parts and we are going with coil over shocks from Nics Forza Ferrari. An added treat when I go to LA is going to Tommy's hamburgers. a little place that has been there 65 years serving the messiest chili burgers ever while you have to stand to eat. It's an experience you shouldn't miss if going to LA.

Ahhhh, brings back memories of college days...

Wow. It's amazing how quickly someone can get through a resto with one client at a time (and knowing exactly what to do).

BTW Tommy's is great.. but with my vegan(ish) fiancee it's never an option. :(

I wish it was one. I'm loaded up right now with Oro Kelso, Barn find, and the black GTS and Nocchio a few items left. Luckily they are all at different stages. But yes no time is wasted in getting them back on the road. Another trip to the plater next week and a visit to another LA landmark eatery Philppis french dip sandwiches. I think they have been in the same spot as long as Tommy's.

Taking a car apart is a pain, but there is something so satisfying about putting all those ultra-clean parts back together again.

Philippe's since 1908! Home of the French Dip! Love that place!

I live in LA, and while you have likely mentioned it and I just haven't seen it, may I ask the name of your plater? Looks like they do a good job, I'll try them out next time I need something done. Thanks!

Update/ edit : went through thread again and found it! "A to Z Plating" ... will try them, thanks!

More rebuilding parts today, with the body ready to go to Steve next week. I think I'm well ahead of Steve on this one. The interior is all done, chrome done, all new rubber has arrived, a good portion of parts are rebuilt and boxes of new parts have arrived from all over Europe and the USA.

I looked at this thread a while ago, and then came back again for another visit. I agree with you that at least from the door shot, it sure looks like Blue Serra - it definitely does not match my Dino Blue Metallizzato GT (never repainted, with LOTS of character - if you know what I mean!).

Oh man, the pressure is on! But Jon... the only reason you are way in front of me on this one is because you're holding on to the body and parts too long :). I think you had it planned this way. Didn't you.... Your the bomb! I sure don't wan't to hold you up on this Blue Dino!!!!
