I'm considering trading in my 09' V8 Vantage Roadster Convertible this year for an 07' 430 Spyder. The only thing is for the same difference I would have to pay, I could keep my Vantage and get a 96' 355 Spyder with relative low km on it that just had its timing belt and clutch done. I'm a little concerned about the relative high running cost of the 355 compared to the 430 Spyder over the next 5 years. Likely will pick up a used 458 or 458 Spyder in 3 or 4 years when their price come down. I already own a 05' 430 that I track and an 01' 550 Maranello. It's a dilemma, what would you do at this time ?

The BEST dilemma to have!! Personally, I love the more "modern" F-Cars. I'd take the 430 Spider. HOWEVER, it would be wise to just keep your collection the way it is at the moment, and wait a couple more years for a 458 Spider. You already have two of the best F-Cars produced to enjoy. All the best with your dilemma lol.

I have a Vantage as well and I am looking for a 430 Spider but in your case if you have the 430 as a track car and you already have another F car I think an 07 would be superfluous. Are you looking strictly for a convertible? Or just to upgrade? Or driving experience?

Why not a V12 Vantage or a Gallardo Spyder?

I think adding another 430 is a bad idea. I think that you will regret it. The car is too similar to the one you have. I second the idea of a G spider or even a Porsche Turbo if your concerned with maintenance cost. How about an R8 spider?

I'm not sure I really understand your question but if it's 355 vs F430, the 355 is the one to dump. The F430 is faster, more reliable, cheaper to maintain and just all around better.

The only reason to get a 355 is because you like the way it looks.

If you're hooked on staying with a spyder, how about waiting a little while and go to a 16M? Bigger difference to your current 430 and might hold it's value better when you're ready to get the 458.

Do you have the 550 because you want a GT car and the AM because you want a sporty convertible? Why not trade both in for a California? Then, having a GT convertible and 430 to track in the stable.

I never really liked my Vantage so I say dump it. My Ferrari is such a better car in every way. You'll never drive the Vantage again anyways.

why not compromise and get a 360 spider. Best looking and in between performance. Cheaper maintenance even then a 430, but you'll have 3 different, and totally awesome ferraris to choose from!

Where do you see it being cheaper than a 430? I know its very close but I would say that a 430 is less expensive to run than a 360.

my ferrari mechanic has told me the major service is cheaper on a 360. I've also had that fact verified by people on here.

I was planning on keeping my Vantage but maybe I need to dump it to get the 430 Spider I've been wanting.
If I have both will the Vantage be a garage queen? So beautiful to get rid of.

There is no time belt on a 430...its a chain that never has to be changed...my friends who have had the 430 for several years had generally lower service costs than when i had my 360 spider. The other factor is after you drive a 430 its hard to get back in a 360- ask me how I know...

I love how the AM V8 Vantage Roadster looks but the 09 sportshift is just plain clumsy compared to the Ferrari F1 system. The reason I was thinking of trading the AM in was because I think it is at the beginning of its steep depreciating curve with the new AM's rumoured to come out with a smoother and quicker sport shifts in 2013. Dual clutch perhaps.

I got the 550 Maranello because it's a 12 cylinder and it had a significance in Ferrari's history in returning to front engine 12 cylinder GTs. I like it's classic lines and the 6 speed gated shifter.

As to a noticeable difference to a 16M, my 430 pumps out about 540 hp as it stands now and about 50 lbs lighter than stock with various mods: Agency Power ceramic coated headers, Fab Speed high flow sport cats, EVOM ECU tune, carbon fiber air box, BMC high flow filters, new larger F1 pump to replace the smaller first gen F1 pumps that came on early 2005 model F430's up to Sept. 2005 manufacturing date (this wasn't done by choice but fried the smaller pump from track use), F1 ECU update for the new F1 pump, Carbon Fiber front splitter, Carbon fiber Challenge shift paddles, Brembo 15 inch 6 piston floating brakes up front and 15 inch 4 pistons floating rears, and few other various bits. Other mods planned for this year includes replacing the side mirrors with carbon fiber mirrors, replace the rear diffuser with full carbon fiber, replace the stock Daytona power seats with Sparko or Recaro light weight buckets, stiffer springs on all fours, custom fabricate and fit a roll bar that will incorporate a cross bar to affix 6 point harness. I have HRE C90 light weight competition wheels on order to fit 245's up front and 325's in the rear using the scuds titanium lugs. The alignment is much more aggressive than stock to suit track use and it is as loud as a banshee when you open her up and pops and crackles when decelerating. The dealer shop tells me the car feels faster than any scuds that has come through their shop. I know I should have bought a scud in the first place but it's now too late.

This partly explains the thought of trading the AM V8 Vantage Roadster in for an 430 Spyder. I would like to keep one open top fun car as I love the open air on those nice sunny days. I love driving my 430 but it is sometime a bit unruly on public roads and the sound attracts too much extra attention. I thought about the Gallardo Spyder but I believe the Gallardo auto/manual transmission is also really clumsy and slow. The local dealer just lowered all their used inventory by 10K. Now there is an 05 430 6 speed, in Grigio Grey and 20,000 km listed for 139 and an 06 430 spyder F1 in Corsa Red with 17,000 km for 159. It's definitely getting more tempting to trade the AM in. Thanks for all your feedbacks.
