Starting a thread to document the restoration of my '74 308 GT4. Before I get into the messy bits I thought I'd put down what I know of the car so far. Build date: Wednesday Oct 2nd 1974 Build No: 418 Chassis No: 09114 Steering: RHD 1st Registration: 1st January 1975 Original colour: Blu Chiaro 106-A-38 Interior: Beige Hide VM3218 with Blue Carpets The first owner was Lancaster Garages in Colchester, UK (Main Ferrari Dealer). They kept the car for a little over 2 years, this seems a long time for a demonstrator so it may be that it was a directors car? It was then sold to its 2nd owner a lady in Harrogate Yorkshire, before being sold again to a company that I think was a used car dealer (Baunmill Ltd) during their ownership it was repainted red in 1978. Since then its had a further 5 owners before I bought it 2 years ago. At some point it also had an interior swap to Black leather/cloth. I intend to return it to original.
I've started a new topic on GT4 build numbers, there is quite a lot of information on this board on the subject, would be nice to gather it all in one place.
So as mentioned when I bought the car it was the usual Red with black interior. But even before we started to strip it down there where clues that it hadn't always been so. Around the engine lid release for example. Image Unavailable, Please Login
And once we began to strip the paint and remove trim the original paint was visible everywhere. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lucky you-- great original colour! ps my friend Niall is moving to Cork or Limerick next month and can bring torque plate and ring nut tools for you to borrow.
Unfortunately stripping the paint also revealed some horrible previous repairs. Including some evidence of the time at which the work was done. An old newspaper stuffed in behind some body filler Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
