I'm toying with doing my first Hiro kit... what do you use to join the metal parts? are you using glue or solder?

    I won't divert you ;)

I use a good pro liquid super glue on non structural parts, 2 part epoxy, screws [provided in the kit] and solder on the structural parts. Make sure the joints are well prepared [etched] and very clean.

Thanks, I'm looking at either a 917K or Ferrari 156 F-1 car. I think the F-1 car is what I'm going to order. I know these kits are an order of magnitude higher than the Protar and Tamiya kits I've done in the past... but ready for the challenge.

the 917, seems like a big job to do on my first Hiro kit..

    Peter,

What do you use for paints? Model paint (Testors, etc.) or PPG automotive type stuff?
    And airbrush? Type?

What is your opinion on the newer acrylic paints versus the old time stuff? Personally my favorite paints were the Model Floquil paints. But they are no more... I use all sorts of stuff, but I almost always use a proper automotive (PPG or eq) for my clear coats.

Not that my stuff is anywhere near as good as your stuff!!

The 917K kits are sold out, have been for a few months. I think the 156/85 is a better choice anyway for you. If you decide to buy the kit contact me. I can get you the best price.

I use DuPont [ now Axalta] base coat and clear coat [2 part]. You can get similar results with Zero paints and Gravity Colors. They are both the same as automotive base coats.

For all of my mat black applications I use SEM 39144 Trim Black...just the best I have ever encountered.

If you want to keep things simple get a Paasche H brush or a Grex dual action. The Paasche is fine for your work and more durable then dual action brushes.

Go to eBay and get the Tamiya enamels [from overseas] for detailing. Stay away from their acrylic paint...just not worth it.

Can we get a front and rear shot as opposed to an overhead? One aspect of previous kits that I dislike is the incorrect roofline. It looks like they've got it correct, though, this time.

    Thanks. Looks great!

Here is a side view. Keep in mind this is a dry fit prior to anything being adjusted and prior to bolting it all together. Ride height, panel fit etc is not as it should be in the photos. I am also trying to convince the owner to paint the wheels as raced and not left natural. Fortunately he has agreed.
