A little OT, but I figured some Beemer folks on here might know:

Last year BMW announced, that they will sell 1/18 models of BMWs which have been painted by famous artists such as Warhol, Lichtenstein and others.

I was lucky enough to get the Warhol M1, but never ever saw another model offered anywhere again. Did they can this idea?

I've seen many of them at the local dealer... take a look there if you have not already.

i'm still waiting for them to release the 850 (calder, i believe).

i check their web site a couple times a month and the list HAS been growing, just VERY slowly. initially they said they'd all be out by 12/31/04, but not according to the web site. i'll have to stroll by the dealer sometime and ask.

    doody.

The Calder is beautiful, but I'm collecting Pop art only, so I'm desperate for the Lichtenstein. I know it is available in 1/43, but I want it in 1/18.

PS: I feel so lucky, that I have been to the BMW museum in Muenchen and seen the cars myself and also that I had the great chance to see the M1 battle each other in the Procar series. Those were the days...

Just went by a BMW dealer this weekend, and I saw a few in a case in the parts dep't. Granted, I didn't really take to notice who the artists were on those, but they look pretty cool. Interesting little models to say the least.

You have to SPECIAL ORDER them prepaid, like parts!!!!!

    Darn, Andreas!

Those are the two I need as well, having the Dave Merak prints (very nice) of the Warhol and the Lichenstein.. I'm sure the second one should be out by now, I've meant to go check, in my Ferrari Art Car. Warhol was one of the earliest ones.....

But that's the deal, one issued each month until the whole series is out.
You DO have to order them in, not a stock item.........

I got those prints too, they're beautiful. Do you have the book as well? If not, check on ebay, it is worth it.

I guess I'll have to ask my friend who is a Beemer guy.

Have to look it up. Have it at home. It is really good as it shows ALL the BMW art cars in fantastic photography and talks about each project and artist. E.g. did you know, that Andy Warhol was the first artist to actually do the car himself? Everybody else before him just painted a model of the car, but Andy the money maker he was, said, hey for that money I paint the car myself. Which is why the fingerstripes (beautifully redone on the model) on the finished car are actually his fingers and fingerprints. How neat is that?

Hijacking this thread, but hey, it's my thread anway, ha!

Did you ever see Andy Warhol's "Frankenstein" movie? A truly abismal movie (not to say a horror of a movie, haha) and a real dare: If you manage to sit through it without throwing up or looking away, I buy you dinner...It made Zombie movies look like family entertainment.

Also I've read his autobiography or whatever the book is. Totally weird. The guy is an enigma if there ever was one. Haven't made it yet to his museum though.

The Menil Collection here has done several shows of his work though, definately unique....Death and Disasters was the name of one showing, all the electric chair and America's most wanted stuff.......

I like the Marilyn's and he did a similar print of Oscar Wyatt's wife Lynn.......

Here it is! David Hockney, BMW Art Car Collection.......is that it??

Not available at Amazon....keep an eye out for me!

There now, see how we tied that all back up?????ROTFLMAO!

    No, here it is:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4520737430&category=10076
But you get a copy if you buy one of the model cars. So I should get another one with the Lichtenstein car. Let me know if you need mine. It is in Germand and English btw.

    Here is the Calder car:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14736&item=6943322247&rd=1

And here WAS the Lichtenstein, hehe:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14736&item=6943236801&rd=1

I guess I just used the wrong ebay search word. "BMW art" did the trick.
