I figured we could use a separate thread for these models as they will come out over the next several months: Just got my latest catalog from Speedgear and they list all the cars, but when I called them they told me only the F40 was available at this moment. Time to part with my Bburago F40 Special Edition on a rosewood pedestal. I'm sure my nephew will appreciate it. Almost an antique: Bought the model when the real car came out.
I once said I'm only going to get the FXX and the Superamerica because I don't have them yet, but seeing SLK99's pictures convinced me otherwise. Just as I was a sucker for the CMC 250 GT, which I already had from Jouef. Oh well.
I also have both. Simply not comparable. For what it is, the Jouef is fine, but it just isn't the world class centerpiece the CMC is.
Hey guys, I heard that there will be many new F-cars coming out between now and the end of the year and its not all the new Elites Ferraris from Hotwheels that will be released. Damm, I just cant stay on top; just way too many to want but I of course I will have too add to them to the growing F-collection.
a little ot... but I just purchased a 312 T4 Exoto and it arrived today, it's pretty amazing, can't wait to get it in the display case...
I can't wait for the GTO to come out. I don't have one at all. Also particularly looking foreward to the FXX.
Speedgear catalog is BS! About a month ago i got their catalog, and they had a picture of the 2005 Ferrari F1 team polo with the new marlboro logo(with stripes), so i ordered it immediately. And when the shirt got here, the marlboro logo part is just a white piece! I was really unsatisfied with the misrepresentation of their catalog pictures.
I have fallen many times for the new lineup of 1/18 F1 models. Never buy them at the beginning of the season, it is last year's car with new decals. It sounds to me, that the whole industry suffers from the same strange need to announce stuff they don't really have. Exoto, Exoticar, Speedgear, they all do it and it annoys the heck out of us. Why can't they be upfront about what is available and what is planned for the next quarter or thereabouts?
I got the Speedgear catalog yesterday and they show an Elite FXX and SA, but also a standard line FXX and SA. Who knows, could go anyway, since we are early into this Elite thing. This is a wait and see thing. Near the end of the year, we should have a real indication of what cars are available and the prices may drop. I will still grab the GTO when it comes out, but may hold off on some of the others and see if they pop up cheaper on Ebay, once the initial excitement quiets down.
Saving a few bucks doesn't get me that excited, but having the model now as opposed to call every other week for my backorder request is really annoying. So I went ahead and bought the F40 off ebay. And yes it was a few bucks cheaper. The Elite quality is so much better over what Bburago did, that I will get all of them eventually. However why Mattel comes out with the SA and FXX in a standard version at the same time (as you pointed out) is beyond me. Does anybody really want such a lesser model to save a few bucks? Strange.
I for one would go for the standard model. Why? Because I don't think the Elite is all that great anyway for the price. It isn't Kyosho quality by any means. The standard models are half the price of the Elite so the price differential is quite a lot. If I want to really spend money, I would buy an Exoto or Kyosho. Otherwise the basic Mattel is pretty good.
Interesting. I couldn't disagree more with you. On all points. One way I'm looking at standard vs Elite models is from my collection/building of space models: The trick is to get as close to the real deal as possible (while staying in a given scale). Basic kits can cost like $ 20 and give you about 80% of the model. Then you go to specialty websites/shops and buy tiny add-on pieces (antennas, hatches, the like) for $ 50 to get an additional maybe 10% of the model. So given that, the huge difference in price buys you only a relative small amount of detail, but the point is to end up with a better model. Besides: Exoto and Kyosho have only so many models.
Well I would buy the Elite if it was substantially better than the regular car. I just dont think it is worth $70. Having said that I might buy the Dino as I don't have one today and Kyosho never made it.

Having said that, I might buy the Dino as I dont have one today and Kyosho never made it. For the first time buyer who doesnt have the standard car already, then the Elite is a good pick. But as I already have most of the cars anyway, it doesn't make too much sense to buy another one for a few additional details. To each their own ...
If Mattel is really going to release a standard version of FXX, I would definitely get one so that I could swap the wheels/tires with the regular enzo. I might do that with the SA and 575MM too
I haven't followed the FX story too closely, so educate me please: What is this talking about the black wheels all about? The original FXX on the press release didn't have black wheels, so why is everybody so eager to replace them on the model? As long as your model matches one incarnation of the real deal at one particular moment in time, you're fine. Or am I missing here something?
i received an elite F-40 from grandprixlegends.com a few weeks back.. i'am very impressed with the quality and detail. The weight is much higher then any off the other hot wheels models i have, and the overall finish is of a much higher degree, the seats even have a "alcantara" type material on them
The FXX that HW is putting out is, most surely, based on the one from the press pics. Howver, all the customer cars have the black rims, and it seems that a widely held opinion is that the black rims look better. I like the black rims on the FXX's, but I won't be changing them when I get my FXX...
Ok, got it. Well, again the FXX had once officially non black rims, so there is nothing wrong with that. Race cars change appearance all the time and particularly something like wheels is a bit like the soup of the day. I once went to a F1 memorabilia shop and wanted to buy the sponsor stickers Eddie Irvine had on his racing suit. The shop owner's response: What year and what race? That's how often appearance in racing changes.
I realize this isn't really news anymore, but I just got my Elite 1/18 F40 and it is mind blowing good. This is going to be one of the nicest models in my collection and I have some Kyosho and CMC stuff. I'm sold now on the Elite collection. Will have to gradually replace my existing models. Anybody in the market for a Bburago F40 on rosewood pedastal? Nah, I didn't think so.
