I'm thinking about buying a 1/18 MG Models Ferrari 550 Maranello GT, but i don't know which is the best way, kit, or mounted.
The mounted model is very expensive (around 400-500€), but it's a easy way to have a wonderful model. The kit is cheaper (around 150-200€), but i don't know if it's too difficult for me. I've never mounted any kit (except Bburago ;-)), but i've modified some bburago models yet. I know it's not the same, but it's hard too.
Anyone has some pics of the MG Models kit??
Anyone has a kit or a mounted model from MG Models??
Please, i need your help. I love the 550 Maranello GT, but i don't have so much money... :)
    Thanks to all.
This is the MG Models i'm dreaming of:

    hi antonio
if it was me i would by the mounted one,i know it is more expensive but its worth it, i bought myself an mds 195s ferrari and i paid 400euros in italy but it was worth every penny, so go on splash out on a 550 gt you wont regret it

I would go for the kit and give it a shot.

I have modified a regular 550 into the GT version (see thread in the Models section) and that was hard as it was from scratch. With a kit this should be a lot easier. Still a lot of work, but at least fitting parts out of the box.

I'm actually planning on getting the same kit for the 575 GT.

I'm not sure, whether I have any experience with MG kits, but I did work with two kits for 1/18 scale: One a kit that builds the entire car and one that modifies an existing F40 into a LM. Both are relatively easy to deal with. The biggest deal is trying to match the existing color on the F40 for the add-on parts, but that's more because I'm too fussy in that regard.

    Antonio,
You may want to buy some inexpensive kits and practice your skills then buy the 550 kit. I have no skills, so I would buy the mounted model.

Or maybe you have a friend who can build it for you. Andreas has great model skills, maybe someone near you does, too.

I agree with the statement about getting some experience with cheaper models. Not sure I agree with the statement about myself. Nice of you Mule, but I have seen models from real masters. They look different. However for me it is not just about having the final model, but also about the fun in the process. Very therapeutic.

Thanx for all the answers. I think that the kit would be more "funny" than the built model, but the result maybe won't be so accurate...
I found a shop on the internet, called www.carmodel.net that has a similar model (MG Model too, of course) with a the cheaper price i've seen. I'll buy it, with shipping to my door, by 338€. More than 100€ than other sites.
I'll tell you how it goes...
This is the model i bought:

If anyone interests, those are several pics of the kit. It looks a bit difficult for me. I think that i've done a good election chosing the bult model.
    What do you think??

I've built many models in my time. My advice, if you don't have much experience of building models, is buy the built version. When you receive the model let us know what you think. Is the paint finish good? What about the quality? I've got the kit but if the built is good I might buy one myself.
