    Hello from Germany,

    recently someone asked for Scale Wire Wheels. O.k.; the job is far too time consuming to start manufacturing a bigger lot, but recently I have manufactured a set of wire wheels for the 250 GT Lusso.
    If someone is interested in doing the same, I could provide the CAD part drawings ( as jpg or dxf ) with all dimensions including the drilling templates.

    The rims are made from brass and are nickel and zinc plated. You can also manufacture them from aluminium, but I wanted a chrome like finish. The alu finish is more correct for the competition cars. The hubs are aluminium. The spokes are made from 0.3mm stainless hardened wire.

    48 spokes per wheel. Original Borranis have 72 spokes, what is really hard to realize on scale 1:18, but I think the 'illusion' is not too bad.

    Like mentioned above; if someone is interested in the paperwork, just let me know.

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

    Very nice work, but since you already have the drawings and the tooling set up, why not just sell the wheels assembled?

    I can imagine Eric jumping out of his pants in excitement!

    With his Lusso now with the dark washed grilles and right size track... it would be absolutely beautiful.

    Did you also do something with the wipers?

    Hot Wheels have the most horrendous chromed wipers.

    Hello all,

    I'm glad you like my job :) For the above questions:

    @dretceterini:
    prior to beginning with the job I actually thought about offering some on ebay, but there's an ebay seller on ebay Germany who sells these wheels at EUR 25,-- per set of four including the rubber. I have to admit, that this would be too little money for me, regarding how long I need for manufacturing and assembling one set.

    @Eric W:
    I didn't count the hours but I estimate - for a complete set - 2 hours on the lathe for making the rims and hubs. 1 hour for making the centering devices.
    2 hours for polishing, plating, polishing once more, 1 hour for drilling. And 4 hours for assembling.

    Maybe one day, when there's no more work to do on my 308 GTB or '72 Alfa GTV I will manufacture a larger quantity and offer them for sale. In other words, probably never :)
    Occasionally I will make further wire wheels for my other models. The next project are 72 spokes wheels for the 1:12 250 GTO.

    Two years ago I already made some in 1:16 scale for a Polistil Ferrari 500 F2, you can see on the picture. Besides the fact, that there are 24 spokes more to assemble it's slightly easier, because the wheels are bigger and the rims are not plated brass, but only polished aluminium, what is the correct choice for competition cars.

    Best Regards

    Martin

    Do you have the name of the seller who has the 1/18th real wire wheels? Is it on US ebay, or just German ebay?

    Thanks,
