Coming Soon: 1:18th Afla Romeo 8c Competizione by MR Collection.
MR has started to venture into the 1:18th resin market. This model was made for Alfa Romeo, and MR is selling some to its dealers. Only 80 pieces are going to dealers. Superbly built by MR Collection in Italy, this resin 1:18th masterpiece will be the center of anyone’s collection. The model is mounted on a plush leather base with an inscribed 8C Competizione plaque. The same meticulous attention to detail is used to build these as with the 1:43rd versions. Price is $499.

I can check, but not to my knowledge. We saw this model in Italy 2 weeks ago and it is stunning.

BBurago and Welly are said to come out with their own version of the Alfa 8c in 1/18th soon, but for around 25 to 30USD, you probably won't see the kind of details in the MR.

I wouldn't be so sure. The detail is probably going to be there and even more but what is going to be lacking, besides the high price, is going to be the finish. With some extra work you should be able to end up with an impressive and inexpensive model. That is if you do your work yourself of course.

Are you comparing a mass produced poorly detailled model with a handbuilt????????
Are you telling us a $40,- diecast is better than a $500 handbuilt???????

Dive into the world of modelcars and check it out!
There is lots of info in this section to make you realise you said something reeeaaaalllyyy stupid!

Compare the BBR or high end diecast like a kyosho with a BBurago or Hotwheels and you will never buy a bburago again!

Have fun exploring the world of modelcars, but don't post statements like this on a forum where lots of very experienced collectors browse.

I don't see any info on the detail level of the MR model. Not being familiar with the line I wonder if it is going to have opening surfaces and highly detailed engine/interior and chassis.......

I've had a Alfa Romeo's in my garage since 1977 so I'm pumped!

Just spoke to Rita and she is going to see if there will be a 1/18th version with motor detail later....or if she can get me 2 1/18th kits and I can than scratch build the motor, open the doors, hood and trunk, etc. If MR actually does make a 1/18th scale version with everything opening and I imagine it would be at least $2000.

Here is MR's web site, but it only shows their 1/43rd scale models. I believe the 1/18th Alfa is really being done as a dealer promo for Alfa, and that is why it isn't on MR's website

No, I'm not comparing anything. I'm just informing what I know. Besides I thought the people in this site are pretty open-minded about who makes their model cars considering almost everyone collects hotwheels. Apparently I was wrong. Anyway, go on with your experience if you will, I'm collecting for fan, NOT money, and I happen to have over 300.....including the cheapos!

Didn't mean tobe rude, sorry for that if I was..
But there is soooooomuch more than hotwheels and diecast. Every collector makes choices on what to collect, thats fine, but comparing a $40 modell with a $500 dollar models is not the way to go. See the threat about "very rare models" and read the section you'll see what I mean. Not everybody likes Hotwheels........
I don't, not because of quality, Its just not my thing.

I don't think that anyone on here is comparing anything. Comparing handbuild MR models with 30 bucks Bburagos is like apples and oranges. But different people like different things and for different reasons. They also collect models for different reasons. I personally don't care if one day my collection is going to be worth 1000 or 100 000 dollars. Do you know why? Because I am not planning on selling anyway and I can't take it with me when my time in this world is up. The only thing I can take with me is the memories of the pleasure it gave me putting it together.
Besides if you compare models to the true sense of the word detail, then Bburago would be more detailed than the model mentioned here. It will not have the same fit and finish maybe but it would have a ton more detail. I have lots of models in my collection and I see and research anything new that comes out. And what I have to say is, hold on, let me zip up my flame suit, that a lot of time buying some of those "spectacular hadbuilds" is not exactly buying the best model. Just like buying a Rolex is not for the watch as a time keeping machine, but image, same way it is with models. A seiko selfwinding watch is going to keep ten times more accurate time than a Rolex. And a 1:43 Kyosho looks just as good for $40 as a BBR for $300. Well, in both cases the "noble" ones will appreciate with time (maybe) but who cares. A very wise man once said >a fortune is worth what you are willing to part with it for<
So back to the subject. A lot of those handbuilt models are not at all that "perfect". And it is simple. A company like HW with billions of $ can make all the tooling for a model a lot better than any privateer. Whether they chose to go cost effective and affordable or better and out of reach for most is up to them. I can bet that if I buy a $30 Bburago Alfa 8C Competizione I can make it better than the model advertized here and still be under the cost of it.
I don't think it is right to call any opinions here stupid and label one kind of models or collecting right and another wrong. You like what you like and other people the same way.
To wrap this up, I still remember the very first die cast model I bought when I was 13. A Bburago F40. I can tell you how much I bought it for and where from. To this day it is probably somewhere on my attic in Europe. I have to admit that I don't know if I even have it still, but if I find it I would not trade it for ,one of each color ,BBR Enzos.

Don't have money for a $500 model I can get for $30. For $500 they better give me a plane ticket to Italy and tour the Alfa factory.

I'm curious - do you use that same argument on 1:1 cars? Why buy a Ferrari when you could buy a Vette for 1/4 the price (depending on model)? You pay extra because it's higher quality! The paint, details, presence, the 'look', exclusivity etc.

For those who can afford it, this Alfa nearly perfectly will represent the 1:1 car, with few to no compromises you would find in a diecast. Sure, it is a curbside model, but not many of us play with our model cars (ok, once in a while).

I collect models ranging from $5 to $700, and everywhere in between (more on the low end than the high end!). With few exceptions, you get what you pay for.
