I'm too vested in 1:18 right now to even consider delving into the endless world of 1/43 scale. HOWEVER...I think I've decided that I want to try to acquire all of the different liveries of the 333SP in 1/43, as the offerings in 1/18 by HW are less than desireable. That car is just so freakin' awesome - sometimes I turn on my Victory By Design DVD just to listen to that thing fire up.

On eBay, I've seen a couple offered by Minichamps, but I don't know if they would be a "less desireable" way to go. I know you guys who have the big 1/43 collections really pull out all the stops when finding the right car. I'd like to keep mine at least SOMEWHAT reasonable in terms of cost, i.e. Exoto 1:18 prices or less (so, about $200 +/- 40). I know there are some 400-500 dollar 1/43s out there, and that's just too rich for my blood.

So where do I start? BBR? Minichamps? Another company?

After that question is answered, my next one will be, "Okay...so where does one go for fair prices and decent selection?" Obviously, eBay is always an outlet, and I suspect that's where I'll end up for most of them. If there's a retailer who "we" (the Fchat community) support, though, I'm more than happy to go that route.

Thanks so much for any input/suggstions you all may have! I really appreciate it.

    Aaron

Go with Spark. Terrific quality for a very good price. BBR is very nice as well, but the high price is IMHO not justified over the Spark one. Spark can go for about 30 bucks on Ebay, BBR for over a 100.

I have a couple Minichamps 333s and one Sparks 333. The Sparks is superior in quaility and are usually a little cheaper. I have a couple BBR models, but I never purchased a 333 by BBR. I know that IXO is supposed to come out with one soon as well. Check www.replicarz.com they usually have a few different Sparks models. Ebay is probably the only place I think you will find the Minichamps cars, they have not manufactured that model for quite a few years.

That's probably the Fabbri one. It's like the Hotwheels 1:18 version but in 1:43 scale. These Fabbris can be bought for around 10 euro.

As it happens I have two 1:43 333 SPs for sale: the Fabbri one (all red, no sponsoring, later version), and a Minichamps (Snap-on sponsoring, early version). Asking price for both is a total of 35 euro plus p&p. If you want more info or pictures don't hesitate to PM me.

    Ciao, Peter

    Aaron,
I think everyone answered your questions. I have all of the Minichamps and Spark ones. Both are good, and the Spark repeats some of the Minichamps. However, if you hold them next to each other, they are different. I don't know which is more accurate, but they are different from each other. Minichamps run is complete, but Spark puts out a new one every now and then. Some say that Minichamps only made 12 models, but they did make 13.
    None should be over $50-60.

I have all of those listed with one exception, as well as a few BBRs and a couple of DVAs (similar to BBR) which no one else ever made (the Landshark car, for instance). The ultimate 333 SP model was made by LeMans in kit form, in both 1/43 and 1/87. I have both kits; if I get a chance I'll photograph them and post the photo.

The one I don't have is the Spark "Presentation". There was never any such car, and I'm not sure whose bad dream this was. Other than that, I think that Minichamp are superior to Spark just because of the materials used.

    Old Guy,
do you have the Le Mans Miniatures "Racing For Belgium" in 1:43 ?
I'm trying to build it in LM 1996-prequalifying livery but am having trouble finding more than 4-5 photos on the web.
    Kind regards

Wow! Great responses, everybody! Thanks to all who have participated for the helpful info - I'm going to print this thread out and refer back to it as I search and find models. I picked up 2 Spark models on ebay for $22.99 each - the USA Presentation model and the #1 World Champ car. I'll try to get as many as I can find at a reasonable price.

Mule - I remember a thread a couple months back where you posted a picture of your 333 collection. I'd never really been into 1/43 collection - as I said earlier, too vested in 1:18 right now to "switch" - but have definitely always had a thing for the SP. When I saw your pics, I knew that the SP collection was one worth having! So there ya' go - you are to thank for my new obsession!

Ed (GTS9) - that BBR looks absolutely FANTASTIC. I'm familiar with their prices, and although I don't think a BBR 333SP will be in the collection *soon*, it DEFinitely will be at some point. It's just too beautiful not to have! Thanks for the great pics...

bigodino - I'll PM you. Thanks!

I'll have to look into these kits...the only problem is, I'm terrified that I'll fubar it up on my last step. I've built (2) 1/24 kits, the Tamiya Enzo and F50. I completed the Enzo, but royally effed up the paintjob on the F50 (don't know if the humidity was too high, whether I applied too much in each coat or what, but the car looks more like the surface of the moon than a Ferrari). I have a 1/43 BBR resin kit of a 275GTB/4 that I'm dying to build, but I'm just nervous about it. The same would apply to an SP, I imagine. At least the 275 has a shape that is somewhat sandable if I screw something up, whereas on the 333, I could get into some trouble trying to correct a paintjob problem with those deep areas of the body.

ANYway, thanks again everybody - you are a top notch group!

    Winding,

That's one I don't have. I've seen it only in BBR, as I recall, and the price and my desire to own one have never matched. If you're talking about the red and black and yellow car it was actually owned by Andy Evans, as I recall, and I might know a source for some photos. Unlikely, but I'll check with somebody.

    Hi Aaron,

Here are the pictures as mentioned in my PM. The Fabbri came in a blister that I don't have anymore (but the black plate as pictured is still with the car), the Minichamps is MIB.

    Ciao, Peter

p.s. for the one looking for pictures of the Racing for Belgium 333 SP: I have pictures of that car but as presented during the spa Ferrari Days. But I assume it's in the same guis as when it raced at LM.

    Bigodino,

I'm always on the look-out for pics and info on the 333SP as it is my favourite modern Fcar.
The Pics you refer to from Spa I haven' t seen, so if you wouldn't mind please post them or in pm ..., thanks very much.
For the moment I have 29 1:43-scale 333SPs, but I'll have to look into how I upload a picture hereof.

BTW. a 14th Minichamps model was in planning and numbered 430 947403, depicting Velez and Evans "IMSA 1994". The car was cancelled, though.

What a wonderful thread indeed !
    Regards,
    winding

With the number of 333SP enthusiasts in this thread, I thought I would mention (in case everyone doesn't get the magazine) that there's an article in this month's "Forza" magazine (#66, Dec. 2005) on the 333SP. Nine pages of coverage with some nice photos... Just a friendly heads-up!

Here you go. IIRC there was some kind of fundraising for this team where people would donate money in return for some memorabilia. I'm not sure if this was the final livery as it raced at Le Mans (different type of race#).

Well...I've just purchased 1/43 333SPs numbers 3, 4, & 5! Two I got from "bigodino", and the other I just won on eBay last night. Pictures of the bigodino cars are in this thread, and the one from eBay is a Minichamps #30 1994 IMSA-WSC car (MOMO and Cristal livery). I also scored a 1/64 Hotwheels 333SP from eBay for a couple bucks just for fun.

I better head off to the mall now to buy wifey something - she's not gonna be happy when she sees not one, not two nor three, but *four* new boxes delivered this week!!! ;) And one all the way from the Netherlands! (thanks again, Peter)

    Have a great week, all...

    Aaron
